Berkeley spring admit--appeal?

I'm in complete shock for being admitted as a spring 2011 admit. Why did this happen? How did they go about deciding this nonsense? I'm a philosophy major with a 3.88 GPA, I have completed my IGETC and have taken more than a few philosophy classes. How do I appeal?

maybe you should just be happy that you got in

And wait more than half a year while people with lower GPAs get to wait a few months? How reasonable is this?

hey, you’re guaranteed to go to Berkeley aren’t you? So what’s the big deal? You should rather be thankful since you didn’t get rejected

Take a vacation!

well berkeley looks at more then just GPAs. If you can come up with some some new and compelling evidence then I say go for the appeal if you want. I know it probably sucks but you could have been rejected. At least this way you can work and save money or go to CC for another semester and get some cheap classes out of the way…

I’m not at all thankful. I didn’t push myself to get in during spring. Why the hell did I not get into fall? Why shouldn’t I be able to appeal?

wow… probably because you have no grounds for an appeal… you need NEW evidence

personally, i think they must’ve really wanted you to defer you to spring 2011, since its rare to be deferred…so u should be happy!? u get extra time off? get a job and save up money?

Oh! Nice one!

No, I actually do, but thank you for that clever snide remark.
Though I must admit I do not know the specific reasons for this so in some sense they may not be of value. I will admit that.

i wasn’t trying to be mean. If you have new information and you really want to appeal then good luck I hope that works out for you

Thank you, but I did find it a bit rude that you made an assumption.
Nothing personal though. I understand now and appreciate your input.

There is a reason they admitted you for Spring.
If you want to find out, call them.

How many prereqs have you completed? Spring admits are often good applicants who are deficient on prereqs.

Maybe if you wrote better essays you would have been accepted for the fall because it’s perfectly reasonable that those people with “lower GPA’s” wrote better essays to enroll before you. If you can’t wait, don’t come.

@ eits so you think it is pointless to appeal? do you think it is worth the wait if one gets into ucla as well?

I’d rather be a Spring admit at Berkeley than a Fall admit at UCLA. That being said, it’s only worth appealing if you have new information. This guy just sounds like thinks he’s entitled to being a Fall admit when he has no idea what everyone with “lower GPA’s” did to get in before him.

Take summer/extension classes? Work and save money? Travel?

There are hundreds of people who would rather take spring admission over no admission at all. Also, GPA is not everything. Can’t just judge people based off that.

But if you must insist… the only way to find out is to give them a call.

jwalter:

I really think that it is just random as to who got pushed into Spring. I am (in my opinion) an undesirable candidate (3.16 gpa, no ec) and I was accepted in Spring, while you are (again, in my opinion) a desirable candidate. I think they just had a huge pool of applicants they wanted to accept and decided to randomly select who got pushed back. I would wait a few weeks and call mid-month because by then a number of admitted students would have denied their offer (cant go, want to go to another school, etc) and there WILL be spots open for fall that perhaps you could talk your way into.

On a side note however,

As an accepted Spring transfer myself, I think you are being extremely ungrateful and rude to not only CAL but also to other spring transfers. While I would rather go in the fall as well, its not like it affects much to wait it out longer. Like another poster said, save up money!, take a vacation!, use this time to take a few fun classes at your cc! Its only a few months longer. Get over yourself, what makes you so much better than those that were lucky enough to get fall transfer?

I’d trade you my fall transfer for your spring transfer if I could. I wasn’t expecting to get accepted at all and now I have to figure out a way to move to Berkeley this summer amidst a ton of stuff going on.
