Berkeley Transfer Chances (the other kind)

Hi all,

I'm a Korean-American girl currently entering sophomore year at Cal and I'm looking to transfer out. I'd appreciate a few quick notes about my chances.

Schools I'm considering:
Harvard
Stanford
Yale
Columbia
Penn (Wharton, maybe? Not sure yet...)
Brown

SAT I: 1450
SAT IIs: 760/730/720
UC Berkeley GPA: 3.85-3.9 (one more term to go; it's currently above 3.9)
Strong recommendation from an influential Berkeley professor expected.
Political Science or Economics major -- maybe both.
I've taken some upper-division classes and done well.

My high school transcript (and this is where things get really sticky):
Top 10% at competitive public school.
u/w GPA: 3.7 (yes, i know)
w GPA: 4.2
5 APs; 5/5/4/4/3 <ouch>
National Merit Commended Student</ouch>

So, do I have a shot at any of the above or am I wasting my time? I rarely hear of people escaping Berkeley.

Thanks!

if you dont have a shot, i dont know who does.

Also, good luck with being a poli sci + economics major at wharton.

pardon the sarcasm but it sounds like youre just interested in wharton because of its prestige...stick to what you like.

"So, do I have a shot at any of the above or am I wasting my time? I rarely hear of people escaping Berkeley."

thats because berkeley isnt a place one would 'escape' from.

''if you dont have a shot, i dont know who does.''

i dont know about that. since this is a transfer application, the dynamic changes quite a bit. the performance at cal, i will tell you, is exceptional. you might want to look hard into some other colleges more well known for thier political science departments, if that's what you're interested in. georgetown sfs, possibly?

and honestly, why would you transfer out of cal's econ?! i heard that they have one kwality program..

zemookmook: There are a number of reasons, but I'd prefer to answer that in PM.

aca0260: As it is, I'm considering applying to Haas (the business school) here this coming term, so it's not something that I'm doing out of the blue. However, I'm not certain that I would be best served by a business degree at the undergraduate level, particularly not from a public school. Nevertheless, receiving one from Wharton -- generally considered to be the best undergraduate program -- might change that.

I'm not going to bother PMing you. But I'll tell you this much. If you want to transfer to another school for chances at a better job/income....

I totally...

RESPECT THAT! Make that money!

that's actually not it at all.
