is it common for people with 4.0s from a california community college, to get rejected from UC Berkeley for a letters & science major? (politican economy of industrial societies to be exact)???

i mean, i'm terrified that no matter how hard i work, and no matter how bad i want to met my goal of getting into berkeley as a transfer....i still will not be able to because of the competition? is the competition as bad as i hear it is? cries im terrified and i can't help it. i've never been so scared to work for a goal in my life...

There is no automatic admit. Just be fortunate that your choice major isn't as impacted as others like engineering or business, and that earning an A- average with decent essays can a solid shot.

u need to relax... if there was a way to gurantee admission nobody would be here and everyone would be at cal. statistically if u want ur chances to be high keep ur grades up, get ur major reqs done, show a little extra curricular and write a good essay.

look at the bright side, if cal doesnt work u got la, and if that doesnt u got UCSD... just enjoy urself

btw, 4.0 at community college is easy so dont f ck it up

If you use it when picking your classes, you are practically guaranteed a 4.0. Since discovering it, I have gotten straight A's...if only I had known of it when I first started. :( And like people have posted above me, Berkeley is never a guarantee..but if you pick a major that is not severely impacted..like Haas..and get a really high gpa, you should get in. Not that I know from experience or anything..since you know I'm still waiting..but from what I have heard.

Also, 4.0s do not get rejected all the time..if anything, the reason for hearing of the 4.0 horror stories is because they are so unusual, not to mention, scary. From the research I have done, the 4.0s that get rejected are 1) applied for a severly impacted major 2) waited until the last semester to fullfill an English or Math requirement 3) not IGETC certified

P.S. Unlike a majority of people from this forum last year, I will post my acceptance/rejections along with my stats to give the future CCers a better idea of who gets in..and who does not.

I've got a 4.0 at UC Santa Cruz, but I'm expecting rejection from Haas for business administration. I think its safe to say that's one of the few majors where a 4.0 only gives you a shot at admission.

hahaha tallkell, I use Rate My Professor religiously. You're so right about it improving grades. Not just because you can pick easy teachers, but also because you can pick teachers that fit your personality and studying style.

I am also a regular user of ratemyprofessor.com. It's funny how a lot of people dont know about it, I didn't find out about it until a year ago.
