Berkeley vs. GW vs. NYU vs. UCLA vs. Emory in IR

I originally have applied for political science major for all of them but learned that there isn't much i can to do with that degree.

So i have decided to change my major to IR so hopefully i can work for NGO someday. Are those colleges really picky about switching majors? I know UC are fairly strict but I noticed Privates tend to give more leeway.

From what i have learned, Location of the school is closely related to internship opportunities. obviously, GW is in DC and it has great resource as well as NYU to certain degree. however, for some reason, Berkeley is ranked above either of them. so i am guessing Berkeley's program is so much better considering the geological disadvantage?

I applied to Emory thinking that i may change my major along the line to some kind of science. but still, i dont know what to do.

GW currently offered me $15,000 scholarship for poli sci major and i am not sure if they are still going to give me the money if i change me major.

anyhow, i am closely searching for answers!
please help me!

80% of UCLA students change their majors. I wouldn’t call that “strict.”

Also, UCLA’s International Relations major is actually a concentration within the major of Political Science

To be honest, I could find much resource on those schools.
Thank you for the information though.

The advantage of going to GW is that you can get those on-going internships in DC during the school year. You can’t do that at other schools.

Yea, I know. That’s a good idea…research! Sure, NYU and DC have more convenient research opps, but UCLA and Berkeley have the CAPPP Quarter in Washington which is a pretty prestigious internship. Academics will be equal at all three, but campus environment will be vastly different. Do you want to live in the middle of the city? If so, then GWU and NYU are for you. If you want a college town, narrow it to Cal and UCLA. If you like a big-time sports scene, obviously Cal and UCLA will be better for that. If you want seasons, head to GWU and NYU. It will also be a lot colder in the winter.

Heh, my brother is going to be in his 6th year of college (4th at UCLA) next year, and I think he’s trying to change his major. Probably will succeed too.
