Which school offers better opportunities (volunteering, externships, internships) for students interested in healthcare? I figured UCLA might be better because it has several health schools attached to it, but it seemed easier to find organizations and opportunities on Caljobs. Help?

Neither has any truly significant edge for this in particular. They both offer too many opportunities for an individual to ever fully tap into. Both will serve you equally well.

UCLA has good medical school so there maybe some synergy there.

Ah, it does. But there are plenty of healthcare providers near Berkeley. Besides, it's not the med school that matters to the UCLA undergrad, it's the hospital and various ancillary healthcare facilities that matter. While UCLA has a plethora of good options for an aspiring physician, Berkeley grads do quite well at getting into med school.

Just go where you want to go. You'll do much better where you're happy.

Health care providers are everywhere, not just Berkeley.

I think he is looking for opportunities. Also I think UCLA is slightly less cut throad than UCB in terms of getting high GPA for medical school.

Columbia_Student,

Opportunities as a pre-med don't always mean "I work for the biggest name in medicine." One of the biggest things my fianc

Agree with you on not chasing names, but these 2 universities are not that far apart in prestige IMO, despite the numerous debates. It's really come down to fit. Some people like UCLA area and some prefer UCB area. Go visit and make your choice based on your gut feeling.

Oh, I agree that there are more opportunities it total. I just don't know that it matters a whole lot to the individual. I think that there aren't that many people in Ann Arbor, for example, but students there seem to find their way. :)
