I know there are other threads like this and its clear that this debate has tested time haha. Seriously, however, I am at a complete deadlock between the two. I love both equally and I find each has their pros and cons. I've compiled my own list of what I love about the schools and what I find most interesting but I'd really like to have some other opinions on the matter. If you have any experiences to share, please do so.

For what its worth, background checks might be in order. I am enrolled as a MCB major in both schools and am treading the Pre-Med route. In addition to the standard things I look for in a school (extracurricular activities, good student-professor relationships, etc...) I am also looking for a community (Berkeley vs LA) that is most suitable for playing live shows for. I've played in venues and performed live shows with bands pretty much since the seventh grade and so I really want to continue playing music for others at college as well. Only I really want to know how feasible that is in each city and what the general music scene is like at LA and Berkeley.

Thanks in advance and I wish everyone luck in all their collegiate pursuits. I am fairly new to CC but I think I'm in good company.

anyone ahaha? I know I’m impatient.

@waltzinghome, if you are pre-med, between berkeley or ucla, I would suggest UCLA because they have a med center on campus in which you are able to do your undergrad research, internship and volunteering over there. Their med center is more easily accessible to undergrad research.

There is UCSF and other hospitals but it may be more difficult for pre-meds studying in berkeley to get research, internship and volunteering experience which is crucial in your med school app.

Did you apply and got accepted to UCSD or UC Davis? If so, look at those schools as well as they would be a bit easier to get a higher GPA which is important for med school and both have great research, internship and volunteer opportunities especially for pre med. Med schools really only care about GPA, MCAT, and research, internship, and volunteer work.

UC Davis’ MCB program is not in the college of letters and science. It is in the college of biological sciences. I heard that the pre-med advising in Berkeley is not that good as compared to UCLA, UCSD, or UC Davis.

It’s definitely not “hard” to get an internship at berkeley, especially over the summer. You are pretty much guaranteed an internship in the summer except the only con is that you have to pay for it. but whatever.

@clueless2400, isnt doing pre-med in a college where there is a med school/center be an advantage than without?

Because we have a family friend who works in Berkeley and he told me that doing pre-med in UCLA, UCSD, or UC Davis is better. I am not sure if he is being opinionated about this subject.

you should never have to pay for an internship, clueless
