Berkeley's CalSO

"tallkell

did you go to the housing option workshop yesterday? the lady told me that its best to look in mid july if i want to move in the end of august because most landlord would ask you to move in right when you look at the apt."

Actually, I did not. It would be much better for me to find a place mid july if I'm not happy with what berkeley offers me dorm-wise. I guess I was under the impression you had to get housing months in advance before everything is taken. But if that's not the case..it would certainly be better for me to wait.

fanter321, how did you like CalSO?

tallkell, haha i thought your username was talkell all this time. In any case, nice to hear that you enjoyed visiting berkeley for the first time. =)

My question for you is how much of the dad did you spend with your parent (do they come with you once you are broken down by major)?

tallkell,

it was pretty good. but it would've been better if they offer individual academic advising. i feel like i can still learn a lot about what classes to take and whether or not the classes i took at my cc can satisify the american culture requirement.

but overall it was pretty good. i certainly felt the school spirit from the counselors as well as the video that they showed us at the end of the presentation where a bunch of ppl went up and talked about safety and health and ect.

but honestly, i felt like i was rushed at calso. there were so many things to go over and yet we had so little time. did you fill out your evaluation? one out of the 400 ppl that went could have his or her fee waived..but you gotta love that odds..

That's simple: use assist.org.

gabe,

one of the classes that i took satisfy the american culture requirement. but i used that to fulfill haas breadth requirement. so i don't know if i can use the same class to satisfy 2 requirements.

"My question for you is how much of the dad did you spend with your parent (do they come with you once you are broken down by major)?"

No, they do not come with you once you are broken down by major. However, you are only separated from your parent...if you want to be..from 9:30-12:15. I actually didn't go to the after lunch workshops (only the last one...they make you wait until the end to tell you how to get your adviser code) but I think you can bring your parent with you to those..

tallkell where did you end up parking? The day of CalSO everyone got free parking in a campus parking garage, and at least when I got there the lot was fairly empty. Did they do the same thing for early arrivals or were you just on your own?

haha thanks tallkell for taking the time to respond...I feel like I'm prepping for CalSo as if it were the SAT or somethign...ahah.

EDIT: That's cool we do get to spend time away from our parent (Even though I love my mommy =) )

"The day of CalSO everyone got free parking in a campus parking garage,"

There were "F" parking lots that cost $7 a day for CalSO students..but there were no free parking lots.

Starting at 7am on June 8th they were giving free parking permits to CalSO people. I guess they didn't do anything for early arrivals then.

I went to Calso as well and found it pretty good if you had an excellent counselor. I was able to go to two different major advising sessions and get what i needed out of it. I also got my cal card which rocks. Also if you go to the financial aid and housing options, don't expect a one on one basis. Generally they are all lectures, addressing questions you know the answers too if you are like me and read the webpages religiously. I'd suggest go a day early and leave a day later to get what you need out of orientation. Today I practically got all my questions out of the way by visiting each office. The women are good, i dont get what you guys were saying

Yes, I saw plenty of cute girls.

Did anyone else receive an email from Berkeley yesterday asking you to fill out a survey on why you chose NOT to attend???? Im hoping its just a mistake...:/

Um..I got one asking why I did choose to attend.

Maybe I should call just incase it isnt a mistake

Just found this tid-bit of info: if anyone's planning on going to CalSo on the 6th, all Bart rides will be free. Part of a summertime save the air program to get people to use public transportation.

<a href="http://www.bart.gov/news/features/features20060601.asp%5B/url%5D">http://www.bart.gov/news/features/features20060601.asp</a></p>

Calso is a waste of time and money. When I went last year I was dissapointed. You do not learn anything useful. Just get your advisor code through the mail so you can register. There will still be plenty of available space in most classes... trust me. Do not waste your money on Calso.

It depends on who you are.

As one of the first people in my family to go to college in I found the CalSo experience pretty cool.

I loved CalSo and classes do fill up.....

To each his own....
