Who's going and who's not?

I really dont want to attend this because I've heard so many horrible things about it and I don't think I'll be able to get the time off from work either. It's not mandatory to attend, but the lady on the phone said you'll be able to speak from someone at that major, and register for your classes.

A friend from Cal said she'd help me go through Telebears, and get my classes set up, and that I can get my ID another time.. But what do you all recommend?

Does anyone out there have anything positive to say about CalSO, as in people who have attended this student orientation in past years...?

I've heard nothing but positive things. You get to register at an earlier date. You get an orientation of the campus. You get personal contact with important advisors. You get to bring your parents to see what they are investing in...

I don't think you get to register for your classes at an earlier time. You get an time to register through telebears but I don't think it has anything to do with CalSO

Then you think wrong, buddy. If you don't sign up for CalSO you can register for your first 10.5 (Telebears phase 1) in late July. If you sign up for CalSO you get to register the day of CalSO for phase 1--June 8, June 22, early July.

Oh ok. Can you show me a link?

calso.berkeley.edu

"I really dont want to attend this because I've heard so many horrible things about it"

I agree with gabe; I've heard nothing but good things about it. Also, when are you guys planning on getting settled in at Berkeley? I know classes don't start until August 28th, but Berkeley recommends that new students get there a week before because there are workshops, orientation, etc going on.

Any of you planning on being there by August 21st?

Also, don't know if my last post was clear on this but I'm DEFINTELY going to CalSO. Will be there June 8th..

I think welcome week is more of a big party week than anything.

A big party week? Link?

It's when the Greek system is out recruiting...

so, it's pointless to arrive to berkeley a week early? how come cal recommends it? should i probably learn all i need to at CalSO?

I didn't say it is pointless to come, just that I've heard it is a big party week, not necessarily devoid of anything useful besides partying.

right, i just gathered that when you said you heard it was just a big party. to me, it's pointless to get there a week early just to party.

I don't know about you guys, but my telebears date is June 5th. If I weren't going to CalSO, all I'd have to do is tell them and get an advisor code, and I'd be able to register for classes. So, for those of you who aren't planning on going, you can still probably register for classes at a reasonable date.

That isn't in line with what I've seen in official documentation, that you would be able to register that date (BEFORE any of the Calsos). I think it may be listed but doesn't necessarily mean you can actually register then.

Actually, now that I think about it, I think that is the opening of the telebears phase 1 for incoming students: The first Calso is June 5 (for freshmen)--but again, you won't be able to register that date, just the opening of the session.

It's my telebears appointment time. June 5th at 8:00 AM. If I had an advisor code, I'd be able to register.

Mine says: "Phase 1 Your appointment will be assigned by CalSO."

And: Advisor Code Required?
You will receive your Advisor Code at CALSO.
If you do not attend CALSO, your Advisor Code will be mailed.

I posted what mine says.
