Is it likely for a transfer student to be awarded this scholarship with a GPA less than 4.0?

Weighted? Unlikely, but possible

It seems unlikely. You usually have to be like the top standout student in your major (especially if it's impacted) from what I believe. Then again, who knows? There's always a possibility.

The one person I know who has received Regents' has a 4.0.

haha. I have a 3.9 and I don't have regents. Goes to show you how much they really care about grades.

That's some pretty great logic there, CoffeeBreak.

I have a 3.96 and wasn't offered Regents.

Most all of the 4.0 applicants who frequented CC were not offered Regents; in fact, I wrote both my essays about community service and involvement, and had ECs to back it up, and was not offered Regents.

I remember one poster, that got Regents at UCB, was a 4.0 applicant with military experience -- a gold star for Regents consideration.

Also, from what I gathered of their criterion, it seems that they are looking for one of two things: leadership or overcoming some *substantial *obstacle (see: extreme poverty, unconventional living conditions, death(s) in the family, etc).

The bottom line: As I have observed and extracted from dense .pdf's, without a 4.0 I wouldn't hold my breath for a second.

*It may able be of interest to you to note that of all the CC users who were invited to compete in the transfer Regents scholarship at UCLA, none were selected (to my knowledge, at least).

Regents scholarship at UCLA for transfers require a GPA of 3.75 or greater.

This event is significant to me because at the time I sent in my admission application 2 years ago, I had a GPA of 3.69 but after spring I received a 4.0 so my overall went up to 3.78 but that was too late to apply for Regents scholarship.

I believe that if they counted spring GPA, I would have had a great chance of winning it because I had won so many other scholarships after spring and many professors are willing to help me writting great letters of recommendation.

Beside, my friend CS major with 4.0 GPA at CC won the scholarship and she is extraordinary student, she got many A+ and a GPA of 3.9+ at UCLA. At the end of her junior year, one company offered her a position at IT department and she is now making a lot of money even though she hasn't got the degree yet, she plans to come back UCLA to finish her degree eventually.

That's weird because UCLA specifically says 4.0 while Berkeley leaves it unmentioned.

That is for freshman. If for transfers, may be they have changed the policy this year.

I was offered the Regents from UCLA. I am transferring from a CCC with a 4.0 but I’m hoping to get into Berkeley. Berkeley hasn’t offered me the Regents scholarship though :-/
