I recommend that Matt read an intro to logic book: Hurley's is good.

and u can major in that s h i t?

Well I don't agree that you need the complex statement "If (if p then q) and p, then q" to accept q as following necessarily from the premises.
[/quote

Yes, you do, because otherwise you beg the question. That is why there is a regress.
And I'm sure alot of other philosophy professors don't accept that either.
Really? It is surprising, then, that Robert Nozick former Arthur Kingsley Porter Chair of philosophy at Harvard and Pellegrino professor of Harvard University endorses it.

And how often does that happen? Even still, it's never that easy.
Unfortunatly.

Suppe's is the best. At Georgetown, we use a book by Barwise and Etchemendy.

When you prove to me that there is such thing as inductivly valid (a credible link will do), I'll do you one better and say I don't know anything about logic.

I recommend that Matt read any logic book. It would certainly conduce to improvement.

Matt, you are simply trying to play with words--and if you do a search you can see that many (WITHIN PHILOSOPHY) actually do use the term 'inductively valid' although I never did myself.

I warn you, though: one foci in my major is advanced logic, (Neo-)Bayesian induction, and decision-theory in choices under uncertainty (using Von Neumann-Morgenstern).

I have no doubt that your extensive upper-division study gives you the upper hand in advanced topics in logic. But thats not what I was arguing.

I thought you were majoring in philosophy and not LBGT studies Nspeds...

Hmmmm...

Makes you wonder.

lesbians bisexuals transgender studies is an excellent major

i'm thinking of switching mine to that.

"lesbians bisexuals transgender studies is an excellent major

i'm thinking of switching mine to that."

You probably won't do well on the LSAT then, or at least, thats what Nspeds would claim...hehe...He is the all knowing God of Georgetown.

nspeds can suck a nut

i agree funnyguy...!!!

We should start an anti-nspeds CC group. I'm tired of Mr.Nspeds bullying anonymous users on CC with his "big" words, thinking he's the ****. ahaha.

We should start an anti-nspeds CC group.

done.

matt, learn to mind your own business

When you insult others on a public forum, I'm going to call you out on it. And stop crying about it because there was no justification for what you said. It wasn't funny or witty yesterday, and whatever nonsence you were trying to pull, wasn't so today.

If you wanted what you said to be private, send a private message. Thats what they're for.

Try following your own advice and not become one of those "snobby/arrogant" CC people.
