Best Accounting Program?

I’ve posted here before, but I am curious as to what school would really fit me for accounting. Here are my stats:

GPA: 3.8 UW 4.4 W 4.13 UC
SAT: 1880 (Will Retake) ACT: 31
AP Classes: World History, US History, Psychology, Biology
EC’s:
A lot of video work for Football (80+ Hours)
Some work with my sister’s community center youth cooking class
Soccer for 9+ years (recreational league)
Dabbling with Habitat for Humanity (probably will do more this summer, but not enough for it to be mentioned at this point)
Involved with youth church group for 4 years
Member and Treasurer of FBLA
Vice President of Speech and Debate

I am a California resident and have already visited UCSB, which I love, but I was wondering if there were any other schools that I might have a good shot at with a good Accounting or overall business major? Cost might play an important factor, so sadly other state schools are, for the most part, out of the equation. I would also enjoy going to where it is colder than Southern California, but that will only play a minor role in where I end up applying. Thanks!

Accounting firms are the least prejudicial when it comes to hiring. They recruit based on the strength of the program and whether the kids they hire stay long enough. Turnover is very high in the junior ranks so they focus on schools where the track record is good.

By all means focus your search on schools that are accredited by AACSB in accounting.

Any Idea about stronger programs? I know Cal State Fullerton has it, but UCSB is more heavily recruited despite not having accreditation. I have looked at online rankings and it seems like a mixed bag.

How do you know that UCSB is more heavily recruited?

@mom2collegekids
A few threads on here as well as some outside sources. From what I can tell, Fullerton is recruited more by Big Four OC offices, which are smaller than the LA offices so it would seem more recruits would go to those. CSUF is a good school, but I don’t really know if it would be for me at all.

With your ACT 31, Alabama would give you a 2/3 tuition award. If you get a 32, then you’d get free tuition.

Alabama has a top School of Accountancy and its accounting program is AACSB accredited. And the Big Four do recruit there.

that campus is gorgeous and there are about 900 Calif students there.

Public Accounting Report (PAR) ranks Alabama’s accounting program 8th in the nation.

If you can get in, and afford it, USC’s Levanthal is one of the best accounting programs on the west coast. You might have to put up with the weather though.

I’d agree that accounting is pretty egalitarian. I’ve seen people go to big four from CSUs, so you shouldn’t be too worried.
