I was just wondering: with which company will you "usually" get the cheapest airfare?

I know Alaska/Horizon usually has the cheapest airfare on the west coast. Southwest is good too. But what about on the east coast? Cross-country?

Jetblue and Southwest are good for up and down East Coast. Across the country, usually the major airlines like Delta, Continental, etc will have better airfares. And Northwest as well for flying out of Midwest.

Use kayak.com to search out the best airfares. It's like Cheaptickets.com except it's main job is actually search the airlines' sites as well. BEST THING EVER! I've saved a couple hundred dollars with this had I stuck with my "favorite" airlines.

I use Southwest, but lately they've begun to get a little prissy.

+1 on Southwest - 2 free checked bags FTW!

I'm still a huge fan of JetBlue, but they don't fly into my home airport now that I've moved to the east coast.

Can't go wrong w/AirTran!

I like Continental, not always the cheapest, but a solid airline. It's like the Toyota Camry of airlines.

Love, love, love me some JetBlue! I really won't fly any other airline (unless I had to go overseas or absolutely had no choice but to fly another airline).

I've heard great things about jetblue but sadly, they don't fly to PHL :(

VirginAmerica wins. It is the best. I go to school in NY and fly home to SF a lot. I usually pay between $90.00 - $120 for a non-stop flight each way. Not only is VA a good deal but they are always on time. Usually they get me to my destination early. Thanksgiving I flew into San Diego we got in way before the arrival time. Virgin's planes are brand new with really cool mood music and mood lighting in the cabin. Lots of leg room too. Every seat has it's own TV screen. Food is pretty good. Like I said VirginAmerica is the best.

I fly Southwest if they go anywhere near where I need to go. The 2 checked bags is not a negligible advantage. You can change and cancel with no penalties. If you change your travel and the new fare happens to be cheaper, they will credit you the difference. Their frequent flyer program is among the most generous. I fly on average a little more than once a month and have a personal and business Southwest cc. In recent years, we have taken 4 family trips (4 of us), 1 to FL, twice to Vegas and 1 to LA on free tickets.

SW employees I have encountered have always been pleasant, keep passengers informed if there are delays, handle missed flights quickly (I've even seen them have new itineraries already printed for passengers who missed a connection because of a late arrival), will go out of their way to help you in a real emergency, and they've never ever lost my luggage.

Maybe it was because I did VirginAtlantic, but that had to be the most uncomfortable flight ever. I flew from Newark to Heathrow, and it was terrible. I'm not a huge guy either (like 6 feet tall, 180 pounds) and I was crammed into that seat. It was nice having a television in front of me, but it was just so uncomfortable (and I have been on Alitalia flights before :) ).
