I am an incoming freshman who is looking to live off-campus and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations regarding housing that is close enough to walk to campus.
@gogators23 I don’t have specific recommendations except get on it quickly. Current students started signing leases back in October…
Yeah I expect a little difficulty due to the fact that it is later but I wanted to make sure I got accepted first! However, I don’t want to live somewhere where I can’t be in reasonable walking distance of the campus.
If it helps at all, University Ave is the northern border of campus and 13th St. is the eastern boundary. As a freshman most of your classes will be in the north eastern corner of campus (corner of University and 13th). However, you may have a class or two at Norman which is on 13th but several blocks south of University. Look for places within walking distance of that area.
@gogators23 Like anything else that you purchase, it depends on your budget. You will find that closer to campus = more $. Then it is a matter of amenities, age of complex, number of bedrooms/baths, etc. Also beware of extra charges for parking if you are going to have a car. These charges vary between complexes and can be significant, especially close to campus.
I have a fairly flexible budget. So I should look at places close to university ave?
I have seen some places online that look good and aren’t outrageously expensive but it could always be false advertising so I was planning on waiting until someone mentioned any personal recommendations or experiences they’ve had on here.
@gogators23 UF has an office of off-campus life and they know all about the housing options. We visited them last year with our daughter and they could not have been nicer. My daughter ended up living on campus, but we had a backup plan in place. I strongly suggest you reach out to that office and get their feedback.
Close to University Ave and then also east of 13th street around Sorority Row. I think that it will be difficult to find walking distance, but bicycle or scooter distance should be easier.
I am curious why you don’t want to live on campus one year?
Do they have a phone number or email or do I need to visit in person?

I don’t want to live on campus because my boyfriend is an upperclassmen at UF and after staying with him frequently during his freshman year I do not enjoy the dorm experience and would simply prefer to live off campus but still be close. If it comes down to it I do not have a huge problem with living in a UF dorm, I just wanted to know what options were available that were close to campus but might be more of what I’m looking for.
There are a few options. “The Standard” is one and “Social 28”-but they are not cheap!
My son’s girlfriend lives in Stratford Court behind Norman. It is very new and nice. I have no idea what it costs though.
Nothing wrong with living off campus. :-bd
However, living on campus does make it much easier to make friends, join clubs, etc.
You do want to have your own group of friends. Your boyfriend is going to graduate, while you still have a few more years at UF. i
@Gator88NE Interjecting into the social sphere is a slippery slope…
Does anyone know anything about Ivy House or Windsor Hall?
Both are owned by TriMark. My son’s girlfriend, who is currently in Stratford Court, lived at Ivy last year. I never saw the inside, but my impression is that although it is nice it is smaller and older than Windsor. I think both are just about sold out for Fall.
@GatorDad305 No kidding!
My daughter lives at the Looking Glass Apartments. She doesn’t have a car but it is actually closer walking distance than her dorm at Hume.
