Off Campus Housing Need Advice

Hello everyone i will be going to UF in fall 2013 and i will be living off campus. The problem is all the apartments have really bad reviews. I have a car so distance inst really an issue. Does anyone have personal experience with any of the College apartments near campus? Or do any parents have insight from a child's experience also? This would be a big help Thankyou

Have you checked out this website?

[University of Florida | Off Campus Housing Search](http://housing.offcampus.ufl.edu/)

I think it depends on what you’re looking for and how much you can spend. It’s worth bearing in mind that many people only write reviews when they’re unhappy so often there will be many negatives. It’s also worth noticing what people complain about in the reviews - are those things that will bother you and how recent are the reviews? Are you planning to live on your own or looking for somewhere with a roommate? Do you want to live in a complex with amenities like a pool and workout facility or would you be happy sharing a house?

I am a parent with a child signed up for the Courtyards, which is directly across the street from UF near many of the classes and library. It is an older property (my sister lived there in the 70’s and I in the 80’s) with very few amenities (e.g., no gym) but the location is great and roommates have individual turnkey leases (rent and utilities), meaning no one but you is responsible should someone need to leave.

Having a car is good, but a lot depends on the type of experience you want to have. If you are a freshman or young transfer, I suggest living as close as possible to campus to get the feel of college life. Also if your habit is to go to the library to study instead of your room, since everything is close up. If you have been going awhile (e.g., graduate school) and prefer commuting, the off housing campus search is your best bet.

Good luck!

Enclave was great when I toured!

I am trying to hand over my entire lease, but it is for a female only. Maybe this will be of interest to you or someone you know?

Hey guys! I am trying to hand over my lease that I signed for next year. The lease would be from August 2013-August 2014.

I am looking to hand over my lease so I can move in with my boyfriend. I live with 3 girls who all attend UF. They are all very clean and nice! We live in a 4/4 at University Club Apartments on the second floor. The rent is 485 a month, which includes all utilities (cable, electric, etc). The apartment is all furnished which means that all the furniture is already provided!

There is a clubhouse, pool, car-cleaning area, multiple bus stops across the street, free printing lab (open 24/7), gym (open 24/7), and they always have events going on at the clubhouse!

Please let me know if you are interested, my name is Sarah. I would be happy to answer any questions you might have at all!

The best way to contact me is by phone. You can shoot me a text or call! My number is (561) 358-3578.

Also, a lot of places have bad reviews. But someone wouldn’t go online and type a bunch of good stuff. People go out of their way to complain. Just don’t live at Jefferson - Very small rooms and bad management. Nice gym and close to campus/downtown though.

I have friends who live at the following and no complaints: The Estates, Enclave, Jefferson/2nd Ave, Cabana Beach, Campus Club.

The one I wouldn’t recommend is Courtyards. For me the entire point of living off-campus is to get amenities like your own washer/dryer and a personal bathroom, neither of which Courtyards offers. It is in a good location though.

Avoid Courtyards/anything managed by Trimark

Although you have a car, distance is still a huge factor. Traffic and parking on and around campus SUCKS. I strongly recommend a dorm, at least your first year. But if you are living off campus, did somewhere close. Oakbrook Walk is decent and within walking distance and it’s also reasonably priced compared to Trimark properties.

idk why courtyards is getting so much hate…i have lived at the courtyards for 2 years now and has been fine. less than 500 a month including utilities, and less than 100 feet from campus. It might not have a gym or anything, but you get 2 free gyms just for being a student at UF. But whatever, for me the priorities are price and location.

Does anybody know anything about campus lodge? I am interested in it

Its no longer Trimark - the lease is nuts ($200 decorating fee instead of a deposit, so that they never need to return the money to you) but expected when you are dealing with a bunch of twenty year olds (and their parents).

I agree with gatorphysicsguy - - its a priority thing.
