Best Apartments Near JHU

I am a rising sophomore at JHU. Considering that it is virtually impossible to get on-campus housing as a junior, I have started looking at apartments for junior year. What are some of the best apartments within walking distance of JHU? A few things that are particularly important to me are that the apartment isn't noisy, has air conditioning, and is in a safe location. It doesn't matter if the apartment is expensive as long as it is good. Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

Try the Broadview on West University Parkway [Broadview - at Roland Park](http://broadviewapartments.com/)
Avoid the Marylander.

[Hopkins House](http://timegroupapts.prospectportal.com/baltimore/hopkins-house-apartments/) and [The Carlyle](<a href=“Morgan Properties | Our Communities”>Morgan Properties | Our Communities) are both nice.

I would say The Charles. It has the best location and the price is better as well. The building is quite old but all of them are… It would probably be a good idea to live on higher floors though. I was considering Hopkins House and The Carlyle as well, but they are a good 15-20 minute walk from the library. The best thing to do would be to go and see all of those places for yourself IMO.

I’m also a rising sophomore. What are your guy’s views on Northway compared to the others?

The rooms in the Northway are HUGE. They are also loud as all get out though, like you can hear everyone’s business. If you’re a girl I would honestly not live there. Security is not great. There were two sexual assaults in/near the elevators my junior year (2010).

I lived in University West my junior and senior years. It was OK; maintenance is GREAT and very responsive. The building is… OK… I think it started going downhill; by my senior year we had some roaches.

Blackstone and Charles are pretty good if you want something cheap and safe. They are loud, depending on the side of the building you get, and management can be dicey. Blackstone has mice that I know of.

Carlyle is not worth the price, IMO. The walk is awful. I lived closer to campus and it still took me 15ish minutes to walk to some of my classes (in the New Engineering Building and Oley or whatever it’s called… the one across the weird little bridge by San Martin Drive). It’s not that nice for what they are charging.

University One (the one above One World) is pretty good if you can get in. I believe they have roaches though.

Hopkins House has the virtue of being located above the wonderful Hop Deli.
