My vote (as a parent) is for

Admission Matters by Sally Springer

“A” is for Admissions by Michelle Hernandez, particularly for HYPSM.

Just finished Playing the Game
and
A for Admissions

Interestingly the author of A for Admissions denies certain things happen that the author of Playing the Game says is true…

I didn’t like A for Admissions. Many of the cited facts, such as the importance of the academic index are not true for most all schools (including the most selective like most Ivies).

I’ve read a lot of admission books and my knowledge on college admissions built up over the years, so by the time I read the Montauk book, I thought it was very useful. YMMV

[Amazon.com: How to Get Into the Top Colleges (9780735204096): J.D., Richard Montauk, Krista Klein: Books](http://www.amazon.com/How-Get-Into-Top-Colleges/dp/0735204098)

The Academic Index is for selling the book. I did not find it useful at all considering my DD had very high Academic Index and did not get into the any reach schools.

I have read a whole lots of books. What’s best for the process really depends on what kind of schools you are looking at and what kind of student you are.

Go to your local library and get out whatever they’ve got. One of my favorites is “On Writing College Application Essays” by H. Bauld. buy that from Amazon for about $5. The book, “A is for Admissions” is old by now.

^^ Agree with mom2sons and limabeans. The Bauld book was the only one of > 20 library books that my d wanted to buy.

^I agree. I’ve checked these 30 books from the library. There is no way, I’m going to buy them except the Bauld Book which I did for my daughter.
