Pleasure Reading: The Hunger Games Trilogy

In Class: Probably* Lord of the Flies*

Poisonwood Bible… or Kitchen by Banana Yoshimoto, that book was really good. I wrote a pastiche on it as one of my IB English papers, which basically means I wrote fanfiction for a grade.

The usual suspects of To Kill a Mockingbird and 1984. Also, I remember some random science fiction book called Singularity that I read in middle school as being pretty good.

If books read for summer projects count then I would say A Prayer for Owen Meany, which is one of the best books I’ve ever read.

To Kill a Mockingbird
Animal Farm
The Illustrated Man
Of Mice and Men
The Stranger
The Brothers K
Lord of the Flies

To Kill a Mockingbird
The Great Gatsby (loved it)
A Separate Peace (Gene loved Finny)
Fahrenheit 451
The Crucible
Native Son
My Antonia

The Joy Luck Club
To Kill a Mockingbird
Tears of a Tiger
Lord of the Flies
Frankenstein, though I never got around to finishing it.
Things Fall Apart

I liked Light in August too.

In Cold Blood, perhaps?

I can’t believe I forgot Cry, the Beloved Country!

A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man as well, for a research paper
and if pamphlets and short stories count, A Modest Proposal is quite excellent.

I’d read it before, but we read The Stranger this year, so it was a re-introduction, if anything. Dubliners is great; it’s a collection of stories.

The Autobiography of Malcolm X. It speaks for itself.
