<p>Which books do you guys think are the best, most authorized on this subject?

<p>I like New Rules of College Admissions. It’s written by several admissions officers, and they give practical advice. It’s not written by a private consultant who supposedly has “proven” tricks to make you look better. That’s what I like about the book–it’s not gimmicky. The only thing I don’t like about it is that I don’t necessarily agree with everyone having a “theme” to his/her application. For some people, a theme just doesn’t work. Let me say that these admissions books, in my experience, don’t really help. That’s because even if I didn’t have an admissions book to help with my application, my application still would have looked pretty much exactly the same. So I don’t know how helpful these books are anyway. I’ve found the advice to be obvious (since applying is really very straightforward, and there are no “tricks” really), but reassuring.</p>
