What companies have y’all had luck with? Are there any services not to have? my plan expires soon, so I’m thinking ahead. Anything?

It’s NYC, so pretty much any service is good. I used MetroPCS and Verizon and both were pretty good. MetroPCS I would say had better reception overall, Verizon was sometimes iffy in the dorms.

My d. happens to have ATT service as it is a family plan & we’ve kept the service. I don’t recall ever having any issue with service (no dropped calls, etc.).

Honestly, I’d wait until you feel ready to replace the phone itself, and then shop around for whichever company is offering the best plan at the time. My son just went with Tmobile a few months ago because he liked whatever deal they were offering to him – and my d. and just re-upped our ATT plan for 2 years because we both wanted to upgrade to a smart phone, and liked the 2-for-1 deal currently being offered on windows smart phones.

Also consider usage and what types of plans meet your needs. My d. must send and receive a zillion text messages a month, I maybe will send/receive about 5… so she’s got an unlimited texting plan, and I have pay-per-use.

So no problems with verizon usually?

Nope. I have Verizon, and it’s pretty consistent full service.

thanks y’all!

Verizon actually doesn’t work in some of the dorms. I had no Verizon service in my soph year housing, but I was in a low-level shaft room.

AT&T is fine as long as you’re not in the center of College Walk on Columbia’s campus. That’s a dead zone, apparently.
