I applied RD, and then my ancient ghetto cell phone decided to stop working. I'm trying to figure out what's the best service to get for each of the schools I applied to. How are T-mobile and verizon? any other suggestions?

yeah same question! i got in ed and have cingular; anyone know if that's ok?

Verizon works great in Hanover. We checked before we bought the phone for our son. We parents live in Florida and Verizon works well. We have the "family" plan, and all our phones have nationwide service.

Good Luck!

My daughter has Cingular, it works fine in Hanover, but if you are planning on hiking the Appalachian Trail, there are some blank spots out in the country.
You will have free long distance in your room, and blitzing is still very popular, so you don't need the cell as much as you think.

thanks a lot!

yep i was there this summer and my cingular worked great

Students generally don't use their cell phone during the day - they communicate via blitz (e-mail). The only time I've used my cell phone to contact another student is at night, when we're out and public blitz terminals aren't readily available.

Also, I have Verizon - it works great on the main part of campus but if you end up living in the River there's no service from any phone company.

Hey G,

Happy New year to you.

we also have verizon which pretty much gives great reception. D gets reception from her dorm down by the river, but sometimes she gets a dead spot, but most of the time it is ok. She usually calls when is is walking across campus down to the river.

As Cangel stated from your dorm there is free long distance (if only D would hook up her room phone).

Hi, Sybbie. Hope your New Year is going well!

Perhaps the freshman buildings are in a dead spot - neither myself or any of my friends manage to get any service anywhere in my building. There is service outside though, if we want to brave the freezing temperatures.

Thank goodness for the free long distance!

Gracilisae - dead service in buildings has more to do with the construction of buildings, than with the quality of the phone service. I work in a building that has very spotty cell service in the building - our church is like that, too, and it is not even such a large building.

thank you all so much!
