Best classic residence halls?

I know there's Hedrick, Rieber, Sproul, and Dystraka.

Which one has rooms that feel most open? I was on a housing tour and went into a deluxe hall (De Neve) and it was super cramped. I know rooms are small in general everywhere; I'm not talking about size. I'm talking about the feel of hall/rooms. It was dark and stuffy and made me feel claustrophobic.

I don't mind walking farther to classes. :) After Bruins Day, I just accepted that I would be perpetually physically exhausted from climbing stairs (until I get used to it, if I ever do).

And please, do not tell me to go to the "Official Housing Thread." It's been there for ages, and it's hard to find current info on dorms.

You only pick the type of housing (res hall, plaza, etc) and not the specific building, are you just curious?

What are the chances of getting a triple in a deluxe hall vs. a classic hall? I put deluxe as my first choice on the housing application. I am an incoming freshman.

CADREAMIN correct about the options for incoming students. I feel like Dykstra might be the most popular now since it’s still undergoing renovations. Physically, all the other residence halls are almost identical inside. If someone blindfolded me and took me to Hedrick, Rieber or Sproul and had me determine which I was in, it probably wouldn’t be immediately apparent to me unless I lived in one of those buildings. The rest does come down to location with respect to food places and classes. Sproul is in a sweet spot near all the cafes and a dining hall. Dykstra gets De Neve Late Night. Hedrick and Rieber have their respective dining halls and Rendezvous cafe. After a while, the food options might not matter as much to you when you get bored of dorm food and default to eat wherever is closest. That leaves proximity to campus, which makes Dykstra even more of a winner.

Chances of getting a deluxe residence hall might be better assuming that the new Sproul buildings are opening (I don’t live in dorms, can’t comment on current state of affairs). Housing might be holding some rooms in specific buildings for incoming students, but I don’t know how many of such they would have in deluxe rooms, so it’s hard to tell unless you work for Housing.

@CADREAMIN, yeah I’m just curious. I know it’s a lottery.
