I am interested in going to college to study art, but I think it would be a good idea to study some business as well. I really love RISD, but they don't offer any sort of business courses (Brown doesn't either). Is there any way I can take some business classes while at RISD, or do you know of any schools that have good programs in both of these fields? Thanks so much!

MCAD has both illustration and business classes. They are the only art school that I know of that offers both a BS (the business part) as well as a BFA).

xAbbyx,

You might look at it another way: a great business school that also offers strong art programs. Under that scenario you might look at:

U of Michigan
U of Southern California
U of Texas

and many others.

USC is an interesting university for you in that they offer a separate business school (Marshal) and a separate art school (Roski). You could dual in a BA-Business and BFA-Art and most likely complete both in 4 years at USC. BTW, they offer both a BA and BFA in art if that matters to you.

A lot of large universities offer strong art programs so I might start with the biz side first and back into the art part.

A word of caution: you would have to be admitted to both the biz school AND the art school and the better programs tend to be difficult to gain admittance. Difficult but kids do it every year so it’s possible. :)
