If anyone could write down any good schools in Chicago I would really appreciate it.

Northwestern, University of Chicago (arguably best econ program), Loyola University Chicago, DePaul U

It would depend on how arrogant you are. Some would cap the list at UChicago; other more sensible people would include Northwestern, and from there it really depends on the eye of the beholder...

No, it depends on what appeals to you. Northwestern, Chicago, DePaul and Loyola are all quite different. Overall, NU and UC are elite universities. Economics at UC can't be beat. Biology at NU is great. But if I wanted an undergraduate business degree, I might look closely at DePaul. If I were interested in a BSN (nursing), I'd visit Loyola, which by the way also has a decent biology/pre-med program.

Economics at UC can be beat at the undergrad level. In fact, Northwestern beat them SEVEN consecutive times in College Fed Challenge and NEVER lost before.
Kellogg School Certificate Program for Undergraduates - Kellogg School of Management - Northwestern University

I am not convinced that econ at UChicago is somehow just on a different level for undergrads without any proof. If anything, their performance in College Fed Challenge suggests otherwise. CFC is the only collegiate competition for UNDERGRAD econ majors. I guess one can make an excuse and say they are so advanced that their answers were way over the judges' heads!!

^ Or that the questions were written specifically for the *Mild*cats.

thanks for the posts. Which university in Chicago would be best for neuroscience?

NU rules. 10 char

Well, at least the "mild"cats have won more conference titles than the Cal Teddies in recent history - lol!

^ what "conference title" would that be?

^ Uhh, the only one that really counts in college sports (football).

FYI... Technically Northwestern is in Evanston, a suburb of Chicago. It's very close (only an El Ride away) but still in a suburb.

(Sorry, I live near Chicago and so I'm picky about this sort of thing :p)

Cal was Pac-10 champs in 2006...more recent than NU.

^ Wow - ONE conference title in the past 30 some years - impressive (and that's w/o academic recruiting hurdles).

^ Haha...OK so, NU has what? 3 in the past 70? With two back to back titles in 1995 and 1996...are you considering that "recent history"?

Cal and NU guys shouldn't be boasting about their football records.

^ The last in 2000 (and I'm hardly "boasting" - just comparing the Wildcats to the Teddies...).

^ Understand...and Cal's was last in 2006.

Under Jeff Tedford (heh), the "Teddies" have 6 straight winning seasons and 6 bowl game appearances, including this season, with a 4-1 record. Quite a turn around, despite that elusive Rose Bowl appearance.

Northwestern over the last six years...hmmm

^ LOL. I can remember a time not so very long ago when all over the state of Illinois, just about any highway sign identifying a state highway, e.g., "Illinois 88," would have a spray-painted addendum at the bottom reading "NU 0."

Northwestern currently holds all-time records for 1) most Division 1A football losses, 2) most points allowed, 3) highest negative point differential (points allowed v. points scored), and 4) longest losing streak in Division 1A games (32). In light of that bleak history, recent years have to look moderate-to-good. I agree with UCBChemEGrad, though, about the boasting.

Really? I've lived in Illinois for 20 years and never seen that (and live near I-88 for that matter!).
I do agree about the losing streak though, having been at NU during that time :-)

LOL!! Still doesn't change the fact that NU is going to a better bowl this season.

And gee, how low is Cal when they have to compare themselves to a small, private university w/ significantly higher recruiting standards? (How 'bout comparing the Teddies to the Ducks or even the Trojans?)

As for the last 6 yrs, only ONE losing season (when Coach Walker unexpectedly passed away right before the season started in 2006) - not bad for a small, private university and better than all the other top private universities (Stanford, Duke and Vandy).

And despite the 2 decades+ where the admin. starved the sports program, Illinois only leads the Sweet Sioux series 33-29-2 (w/ NU winning 4 of the last 5, including the final game w/ the Sweet Sioux Trophy).

Otoh, Cal (being the "state school") lags behind Stanford in their series 55-45-11.
