Does U.Chicago have a decent econ program?

Is their undergrad econ program pretty good?

It’s one of the best in the country.

Nope. It’s terribly substandard. In fact, the econ department hardly exists; you have to part several bushes aside and carve a path through a dense jungle to get to it. Once you do, it’s just an old man rambling about money.

Just kidding. MPD is correct.

lol what the…laaame

Your kidding right?

this has to be a joke

it is THE ECon program- the rest just wait and copy

you brain is squishy

that’s like asking if MIT is any good at science.

I thought MIT was renkowned for their Social Science programs?

;) Maybe if OP had done a google search he could have saved him/herself a little bit of sarcasm at their expense

^they are.

haha, I apologize for all the sarcasm on our part…but you did kind of ask for it. However, to avoid confusion - yes, they have a phenomenal undergrad econ major. It’s what they’re known for. Google and Wikipedia = God, by the way.

Dude, do your research before asking questions like that.

This is the academic equivalent of asking, “does USC have a decent football program?”

^ Or asking if UofC has a decent football program? :)

Let’s put this in the archives along with questions about how good UofC’s engineering program is…

Hey the first Heisman Trophy winner was from U of C. Let’s not dis the football.

^yes, but i believe they were below .500 last year.

I’ve been checking. I’m looking to be recruited :)

And, it was U of C (A. A. Stagg) that invented 5 player basketball, and who played the first collegiate basketball game. U of C beat Iowa.

I almost died when I saw this thread. It’s one of the biggest reasons why I would choose Chicago over UMich right now (that is if I actually got into Chicago, which clearly hasn’t happened yet). Downside is that Chicago’s tuition >>> Michigan’s tuition as an IOS. Michigan’s education is a steal for me.

Well, that and probably a few other things, too. Sociology was invented there, and if anything that department may be ranked higher than econ (like, undisputed #1 vs.merely tied for #1). But who cares about Sociology, right? Their anthropology would be another #1 rated department (or close to it). Indeed, Indiana Jones is an alumnus, or a professor, or otherwise somehow significantly affiliated. Their business school is 2nd oldest in the world, and has been ranked #1 by Business Week for the past 4 years. Many of Chicago’s social science departments benefit from the University’s affiliation with the National Opinion Research Center (NORC), because data matters. Then there all the Nobel Laureates affiliated with the university (the largest number in America, second in the world). The University kinda stretches the definition of “affiliated” to include, like, any Chicago-area laureate who once had a summer job shelving books in one of its libraries, but the legitimate ones are numerous too.

Oh my I thought this a ruse to get attention. lol
Yes, the econ program is BEYOND decent, its the best.
And you did kinda asked all of the sarcasm above.

I’m a hopeful grad student (sociology). If I am accepted, the tuition will break the bank. But who cares about sociology, right?
