BEST communications and film schools in the U.S?

Of course, there is Northwestern, S.I Newhouse @ Syracuse, Chapman, and the obvious in Florida and California...but, are there any other schools offering good Communications/film programs worth exploring?

If you know any, help me (and others, i'm sure) by listing them below! Any feedback on the curriculum or school's history is also appreciated.

thanks!

Miami (fl), Ohio University, Missouri, UVA, Florida State, Tulane...

Syracuse, Boston University, UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI-COLUMBIA.

USC for film is sick.

Nyu ............

oh why wont it let me capitalize those letters.

New York University

UT-Austin.

Emerson College in Boston is basically devoted to arts and communication

No communications, but Wesleyan has a really strong film studies program. Even though its film "studies," there are still some technical aspects, and we have HUGE alumni presence in film and television (esp. for a program that only has about 30 majors a year, some of whom go into academics), to the point where the alumni presence in Hollywood had jokingly been called the "Wesleyan mafia." The program is relatively new (created in the last 20-30 years or so), but has already created some very notable alumni (the most name-recognizable are probably Joss Whedon and Michael Bay).

My friend's dad used to teach a film class at Weselyan. He failed Michael Bay.

That's amazing. He's not exactly our proudest graduate, though nonetheless he's somehow managed to make some pretty big budget and well known films (even if they are well known for being bad...)

if you're aiming to focus more on the film/production side of things, be really careful with that. Most schools are mainly focused on print. Missouri, for example, don't offer film majors, which could be limiting if that's something you're interested in.

That said, I'm going to second recommendations for Emerson, Wesleyan, NYU, USC, FSU.

And add my own recommendations for Bard, Boston U, FAU, Ithaca, SCAD, U Miami (FL), then obviously Syracuse and Chapman.

VertigoFrog, many of my friends in my film classes would call your friend's dad their hero. haha.

I heard that Ithaca, as a school, has a poor reputation with their academics program...is that true?

I don't care what anybody says, Bay gives plenty of money to his alma mater.:)

haha I never said I didn't like him...
Transformers was awesome :)

I want to major in business and double major or minor in communications or theatre, any suggestions?

And what looks better if I eventually want to work for a big production company, like paramount, or a broadcasting company, like NBC

kyle33,

USC offers a joint program that bridges both the School of Cinematic Arts and Marshall the business school and allows qualified students to earn a degree in business administration with a specialization in film studies -- <a href="http://www.usc.edu/dept/publications/cat2006/schools/cinema/degree.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.usc.edu/dept/publications/cat2006/schools/cinema/degree.html</a></p>

I'm sure NYU offers the same thing with Stern and Tisch.

Usc Usc Usc

Thanks for all the info!

I checked it out the site, and the program totally sounds like me!

The only thing is USC has only a 25% rate of getting in, i don't know if I would havea chance.

My stats are,

1080 SAT
520 C.R.
560 M

(yes I know my SAT's are a tad low, but i'm retaking them in October)

4.0 U.W. g.p.a.

Number 2 out of 210 in my class.

Involved in alot of EC's such as student council president, lead in school musicals, peer leadership, ect..

Is there any other schools that offer somthing similiar to USC program?

ur going to need way higher SAT scores
