Best CSU's to Apply to?

I currently live in Norcal but I my parents will move to LA county area next year, so I prefer CSU’s in Socal.
As for major im not sure but ChemE, Math, Biochem, Bio are my most favorable options.
Which CSU’s are solid for these programs (even premed) and also would be a safety for me?
4.17 W, 3.75 W, 4.08 UC, 1460 SAT, 750 math2, 720 chem, 7 AP’s by end of senior year.
I am also in top 9% so i wont apply to merced

I assume you’ll be applying to UCR (UC for premeds) as well as other UC’s.
SDSU Honors is an obvious answer for you, as well as Cal Poly Pomona Honors. Both would be safeties.

how about CSULB - my parents would be 30min away- for chemE, math, etc…

low match to safety if you’re in the catchment area, reach otherwise (very few students from outside their area are admitted)

ok and CP SLO would be a reach right? also is SLO the only CSU that uses ECs and stuff?

Yes, SLO is the only CSU that asks about EC hours and with an Average CP GPA of 4.17 and SAT of 1467, it should be considered Reach although you are competitive for Engineering (no CHEME) along with Biology. CSULB is definitely a solid Match if you are non-local but could be a safety if in the local area.
Again SDSU would be a solid Match/Low Match but not a safety in you are non-local.

so i still have a shot at SLO
my EC’s mainly include tutoring students and Sciene Olympiad event coordiantor plus 2 medals

SLO application just asks about hours/week for the EC’s and if any EC’s are major related. I do not believe they ask to list any awards.

Yes SLO is a good match for you.

so not a reach?
is the admission relatble to UCI and UCD by diffciutly?

If you are applying for Materials Engineering at SLO, then a Match since that major has around a 44% acceptance rate. Other types of Engineering can have acceptance rate as low as 10%. Biology has around 19% acceptance rate. Not all majors at SLO are created equal so it does make a difference which major you select to apply.

how would it compare to UCSB materials?
also how are finidng jobs for SLO matE grads?

Compare the curriculums and check if both are ABET accredited. Finding jobs is more about the job skill set you have when you apply and less about where you go for undergrad. Both will give you an excellent education. Apply to both and then consider your options.

also for SLO if i got into matE, how hard is to swtich into another eningeeirn like CS or EE?

Changing majors at SLO is never easy but being in the College of Engineering gives you an advantage. However, the first requirement to change majors is if you were eligible (competitive) for the new major at time of admission. This prevents applicants from selecting an easier admit major and then try to switch.

CS has about a 10% acceptance and most difficult admit.

is mse more competitive to get into than other majors like bio or chem?

Engineering majors are usually the most competitive majors besides Nursing at many of the CSU’s. Biology also is a competitive major due to the # of applicants and the popularity of the major. Impacted campuses and/or majors are going to be competitive regardless.

Here is the CSU impacted campus matrix:

@SREE33, here is a link to the Cal Poly enrollment target projections for 2017-2018 and the actuals from the previous year:

It gives you an idea of how many students apply and how many spots are available for each major. Like has been posted already, not all majors are created equal at CP SLO.

We didn’t have this information when my son applied. It doesn’t break down the GPA and test score needed for each major, but it gives you a good idea of supply and demand. He decided to go with English (500+ expected applicants for 85 spots) rather than Psychology (2100+ expected applicants for 75 spots) and I think it might have made a difference on his acceptance.

also for CSU’s, specifically SLO, would it be useful for getting jobs OOS?
or only good IS?
