Best dining hall

Among the three dining buffets, is there one that tops the other two? Or an overall general consensus that one is more popular than the others?

i went to covel commons (i think that;s what it is, right next to de neve plaza), and it was DELISH! better than most restaurants! good vegetarian options too

Hedrick > Covel

Covel and De Neve are the best.

Covel has a better array of desserts and its pasta is always a safe dish.

De Neve is where all the food is really prepared. It serves the best and highest quality general dishes if you ever grow tired of pasta.

Reiber is a fourth dining hall that you forgot.

I don’t think Rieber dining will be open until winter quarter? Correct me if I’m wrong. But out of the other 3…it really depends on what you like. Covel usually has pasta and/or fish. Hedrick usually has either chicken or Asian type dishes. Not too sure about De Neve because it was a little out of the way for me, so I never went there.

De neve, hands down. They vary their dishes a lot, I especially like the curry and sandwiches. Plus its big, so its easier to find a table. Covel is good too…hedrick and rieber are the worst.

hedrick pizza is way better than covel pizza

this confuses me, why don’t they just all make the same pizza?

It really depends on your taste. For me personally, I prefer Covel. It has a diverse array of desserts, has a lot of pasta or seafood related food, and it’s right in the center of the hill (which sucks if you live at De Neve though).
But De Neve is my second choice, you can make your own sandwiches at the sandwiches bar, and it’s the largest dining hall in terms of size.
Hedrick … the only thing I like from there is the sushi. But that’s it. >_<
Each time before I go have lunch or dinner, I usually check their online menu and see where I want the most. There’s also 3 specialty restaurants that are quite good - Cafe 1919 for all of your Italian tastes (like pizzas, panini, gelato - yum!), and Bruin Cafe and Rendezvous (for Mexican and Asian food).
All in all, I suggest you try each place at least once, and then decide which dining hall/restaurant suit your taste.

Don’t worry; after a while everything will taste the same.

lol… so true

i think it’s a matter of where you live. for me, i lived in dykstra so i ate at de neve all the time. while i enjoyed the food at de neve, i gradually grew tired of it and began to prefer eating at covel towards the end of the year. i’m sure that the opposite would be true had i been living in sproul.

however, de neve brunch still>all other dining halls. and reiber flat out sucks.

aww I’m going to miss dining hall food… even though I said the exact opposite in spring quarter of sophomore year :(

Yeah once you’re a couple months into it everything does taste the same.

But when you do start out, Covel is the best. Hedrick is the worst.

I like Hedrick. It’s always empty because most people either don’t know where it is, or it’s too much of a walk for them. They have a good selection of cereal (one of my favorite foods) and their pizza is the best, especially the chicken BBQ one.

I really liked Rieber for their make your own pasta bar, but too bad it’s closed.

Though, my favorite dining hall would have to be Covel. They just have everything in general. I hate De Neve. It’s kinda far and ALWAYS crowded. (Cause the kids in De Neve and Dykstra won’t walk to the other side.) One time, I spent 15 minutes looking for a table. >_< So not cool.

De Neve > Hedrick > Covel

The pizza in De Neve is the same as Hedrick. Covel is supposed to serve Italian so they bought a fancy (and sadly inferior) pizza oven.

In my opinion:
Hedrick > Covel > De Neve > Old Rieber

Rieber food is pretty disgusting …

maybe rieber dining will be better when it reopens? i hope so, because i’m staying there…
