Is there a dorm known as the “party dorm?” I don’t mind people who are social or party sometimes, but I don’t really want to have to avoid drunk kids/puke in my hall everyday.

Units have more drunk kids that other dorms, the closer to frat row, the more likely it will be to see drunks in your dorm.

I don’t know about that. At Clark Kerr, alcohol flows as free as water.

It’s not everyday, the people who party go to berkeley and study too you know lol. You’ll probably notice/hear of someone puking like 2-3 times the whole year.

<<<foothill: the=“” people=“” who=“” choose=“” to=“” be=“” here=“” know=“” that=“” it’s=“” engineering=“” science=“” major=“” dominated=“” and=“” there=“” is=“” much=“” less=“” socializing=“” more=“” studying=“” than=“” anywhere=“” else.=“” you=“” can=“” figure=“” out=“” what=“” racial=“” breakdown=“” would=“” be.=“”>>></foothill:>

racial breakdown: predominantly asians.
I’d rather mingle with hard working asians than those drunk frat boys (dooschebags).

Can someone please compare the pros and cons of Units 1,2,3?!! Also where do must second- fourth year students stay? Apartments near the campus? Are those apartments dominated by CAL students?

Unit 2 is by far the worst of the three units for two simple reasons, it is way too far from campus and it right across the street from People’s Park, which can be kind of creepy.

Unit 1 and 3 are much better than Unit 2 for those reasons alone.

@Jamie: I think the rates per semester are roughly…

Single ~ 5.5k
Double ~ 4.3k
Triple ~ 3.7k

The best thing for you to do is to visit TC and check out the rooms and such.

@Jamie235: I actually think the rates are a little higher than when HelloAll stated, although it’s close. I had the actual price sheet on me a while ago for the following year, but I misplaced it. But I remember that it was around 5.8k for single, 4.6k for double, and 3.9k for triple per semester.

What does Unit 1 have the Unit 3 doesn’t have? And vice versa? Which one would you choose between the two if you had to choose?

Unit 1 and Unit 2 share Crossroads, Unit 3 has cafe 3 in it. Cafe 3 is much nicer but a little smaller. Unit 3 is closer to the restaurants/shopping and the main part of campus like Sproul. Unit 1/2 are closer to frat row… The renovated buildings in units 1 and 2 are not the buildings most freshmen live in anyway so the buildings are pretty much the same as in unit 3. You have laundry every other floor in units 1 and 2, it’s below cafe 3 in unit 3. Unit 3 (ida sproul) has a freaking amazing view of all of SF/golden gate :)

i stayed over for ROHP and calday this weekend.

before, i thought foothill was the place to go for sure. fancy, spacious, etc. and the units were all party houses

BUT, my host lived in Unit 1 Slottman on top floor with a doubles minisuite and it was DEFINITELY better than foothill where uh ad to walk up and down like a billion stairs and the rooms were sooo stuffy

Unit also has better lounges =]

You are confused, Foothill rooms, in general, are bigger. Unit doubles and unit minisuite doubles are not significantly different in size from my experience.

^Not really. My friend has a foothill suite and their rooms are smaller than my unit 3 double. They’re a bit longer but way narrower. Minisuites in the units are bigger than just the normal doubles.

varies a bit from room to room, but in general they are indeed bigger. The smaller the overall suite the bigger the actual room

is there a mini-gym in unit 2? if there is, which building is it located in and how much equipment is there?

I heard the units are where there’s a lot of parties, noise, and drinking. Is this true? I kind of want to have a normal college dorm life but I don’t want it to be crazy all the time. Would the units still be good for that?

There is more drinking in the Units than in Unit 4, that is

(FYI, when people says “the Units” we are not including Unit 4 (Foothill/Bowles/Stern) or 5 (Clark Kerr))

ehhh well the foothills dorms r much narrower but ure rite. the dorms in unit 1 and foothil r prob the same size hahah

also, the Units r not the “party dorms” cuz it depends on which place u stay in
Unit 1 consists of 5 diff buildings. slottman and christian r ALL mini-suites which tend to be the best places to stay

the other buildings r co-ed floors where everyone shares like one bathroom and the girls/guys shower next to each other.

i personally stayed in Unit 1 Slottman and i liked that the best

Why is everyone going crazy about these “party dorms”?? This is still Berkeley not UCSB. The drinking/partying is completely nonexistent at Foothill and Stern. It’s a little looser in the units but nowhere near what you guys are imagining.

Just go with the units unless you’re really introverted and are ok with being isolated from everyone and everything.
