<p>Going to have to put in housing application soon.... what are the best dorms for a freshman? Ill be taking business oriented classes if that matters for location. I want to have a good social scene too.</p>
<p>I would have to recommend Libra, Hercules, or Nike. All three are great, mid-priced dorms for a freshman looking to socialize and meet new people! I do believe Libra is pretty close to the two Business Administration buildings, if that is of any concern.</p>
<p>I would have to recomend Libra specifically,because this location is close to the marketplace, so they can go to breakfast in the morning really fast before go to the classrooms.</p>
<p>Yeah I think those are actually the ones I was looking at. I liked how libra was close to the business buildings, but I didn’t know how it’s social environment was and it’s proximity to eating and stuff. But I thought I read that libra wasn’t as nice as Hercules/Nike or something</p>
<p>Hi. We are actually going to UCF tomorrow to see Libra for ourselves. We went a couple weeks ago on a Saturday and housing was closed so we didn’t get to see inside. However, my son loves where the Libra dorms are. They are central to classrooms, the dining hall and right across from the gym and pool. Nike and Hercules are definitely newer but Libra rooms are bigger, especially the L-shape. My son doesn’t care as much about aesthetics as he does about having enough room to stretch his legs 
Also, Nike is closer to the pool and gym but it’s a longer walk to classes. All depends on what you’re priorities are. I have heard Libra is really social because they are almost all freshmen. Nike also has apartments for upperclassmen so they are not all freshmen. I will post again after our visit tomorrow. (Going for Scholar’s Day and they will have housing info available and hopefully a tour.)</p>

<p>I loved Libra when I went. The L-shaped ones. I thought Nike was nice but it was too far .</p>
<p>Ok so we went to Scholar’s Day today and did the housing tour. We got to see 4 rooms in Libra and 4 rooms in Nike and here’s what I can tell you:
As far as location goes, Libra has the advantage. It is right next to the dining hall, the gym and the pool are just across the street and you can roll out of bed and pretty much be at any class in just a couple minutes. My son initially wanted the L-shape. Here’s the way I would explain the differences: The L-shape has a little more privacy. (At least as much privacy as you can have with 2 people in a small room). The closets are a good size. There are 2 windows. However, the bathroom is very small. Wouldn’t be a big deal for 1 or even 2 people but for 4…it’s kinda tight. It also has a regular hallway to enter the rooms.<br>
The pod style in Libra is set up so that all the rooms on the floor connect to a common area with seating. Seems it would be a lot easier to meet your floormates and have an area to hang out without leaving the building. The room itself is a typical dorm room with 2 beds. However, when you walk in there’s a much bigger vanity area (big enough for a refrigerator, microwave and some storage.) In the bathroom itself there are 4 recessed shelves so each roommate has their own place to store toiletries,etc. It’s the one they show on the housing website. Also the closet is in a perfect location with a shelf to put your tv
So, then on we went to Nike. Definitely a lot nicer looking especially from the outside. Has that South Florida feel to it. The rooms have sheetrock and paint as opposed to the dreary cinderblock walls in Libra. When you walk in to your room, there is a large open hallway type area common for the 4 roommates. The one we saw had golf clubs there. You could definitely store some stuff there but it would be in a common area…
The room itself was nothing special but it was newer than Libra. A little smaller too. We saw several different configurations. The one my son liked was both guys had their bed against the same wall long ways so that they would be facing each other. On the other wall they had both desks, both nightstands and their TV’s as well as refrigerators,micro. The whole center of the room was then open. Made the room seem much larger but you would have to be comfortable sleeping toe to toe with your roommate. Anyway, after seeing both, my son really liked Nike so we figured we would change his request…till we decided we would walk to the classroom area just to get an idea of what it would be like. It’s not even really hot yet, and we were roasting by the time we got out of Nike, crossed the street, went through the Libra area and into the academic area. I guess if you have a bike it wouldn’t be that big a deal but if you were planning on walking, it seems it would be another 10 minutes from where you would start at Libra. For a kid that likes to roll out of bed and be in class, his decision has changed back to Libra…lol
It’s all a matter of preference. Nike is definitely newer and you can roll out of bed and be at the pool or gym. Libra, I personally feel would be more social and definitely has a better location to classes and still close enough to gym and pool as well as being right next to the dining hall.</p>
