i want to meet lots of people, am social, want to have lots of fun, BUT i don't drink or do drugs, and take my academics very seriously. i've heard about cobb being low key (i'm honors so can request an honors roommate and probably wind up there), but also heard it is VERY quiet, not social, and you don't get to meet many people if you live there. is this true? i'd hate to cut myself off from most of the carolina community by ending up in a dorm where people were ONLY academically focused, but i have to keep focused these next 4 years, bc i have more school coming after carolina.

are there other dorms that are more on the low-key side, where the honors students tend to end up? i've always managed to focus on my academics AND have a lot of fun, and want to wind up near like-minded folks at carolina.

i am oos so don't know any other honors students, so can't find an honors roommate and then choose a non-cobb dorm to live in. since i am basically getting anonymously matched with a roommate, they will place me in Cobb if i ask for an honors roommate.

what's been everyone's experience with cobb?

If you don’t drink or do drugs (I don’t either by the way) then consider one of the living learning communities, more specifically the substance free community.

Aside from maybe Granville, most of the dorms are going to have a wide mix of people and habits. I don’t think any of the dorms have a general reputation for being “party” dorms. It’s also going to just vary year to year depending on who’s there, so it’s hard to predict.

A friend of mine who was visiting a friend at Cobb stepped in a pile of vomit outside…they do party there. What I’ve heard from the guy I know who lives there is that they do party but it’s a little more low key. I’ve read complaints from others that some of the honors students who live there are kind of uppity and the guy I know there could be described in that way. So there’s probably a balance. It would be a good place to be more academically focused, though. And as smcneil said, a substance free LLC would definitely be what you’re looking for as well. If you want to party you can always go out with your friends but you won’t have drunken people stumbling back to their dorms at 2 in the morning.
