Best dorms

What dorms should we choose in your opinion? Will we be able to take a look at the dorms before we choose if we go to cal day? Also, what are the chances for getting a triple versus a double? I really want a double. Are certain dorm buildings just doubles and some more susceptible to triples??? thanks for whoever answers this--i know there are a lot of questions.

1) Look around on the forum for the first question.
2) Cal Day is April 18. Is your SLR due before April 18th?
3) I’m guessing about an equal chance?
4) On my floor (In Unit 3), there’s 7 triples and 6 doubles.

i think i want to live in the units. if i ask for a double, is there a good chance that i will get a double?

About a 50/50 chance.

On Cal Day do they actually give tours of the dorms? Like do they go into them and walk down the halls? Seems like it would be boring.

Are there any dorms with shared living rooms or something?

There are a huge number of activities you can go to, not one set of fixed tours. Most won’t bother visiting dorms, others will want to see all three types - units, CK and foothill - to help them make housing choices.

umm not the units.

Unit 1/2 minisuites are quite nice =)

Yes they are. But just because you put them on your list doesn’t mean you’ll get them or anything else you chose…like me when I was a freshman. :'(

asd1asd1, just go refer back to old dorm threads. I’m sure there are plenty.

Bowles

Bowles quads consist of one large center common room which is much larger than a double in the Units with two small side rooms. All four beds are in the two side rooms. As a result, there are no conflicts between you and your roommates if you are sleeping and they are studying.

does anyone know if one is able to live off-campus if one doesn’t the dorm one chose?

Yes. You do not have to accept your housing offer.

foothill’s got a nice common room too.

depends on what you want, really, but for freshmen i’d recommend going for unit 3 – it’s really close to campus, the social dynamic is great, and cafe 3 is right there! :)

clark kerr definitely–def has social ppl yet still quiet if you want that
huge rooms and better food, outdoor space, you wake up to birds insteda of traffic
the longer walk is definitely worth it
there is no annoying check-in, basically you can get away with stuff you couldnt get away with in the units

I heard that the dorms near the northern campus are higher in Crime rate.
Is this true?

(this is the only thing that’s keeping me from putting Stern as my No.1 choice)

ellen, i have never heard northside being unsafe…in fact i thought there was a higher crime rate in south side

northside just seems sketch because it’s usually really quiet and awkward. lol
