Hi, I could use some help in finishing up my college search.
Info:
SAT:1470(1420 the first time)
ACT: 31(only taken once)
GPA: 96.1
From New York State
Colleges:
I have been mostly looking into SUNY Geneseo, The College of New Jersey, CWRU, the University of Rochester, WPI, and Connecticut College.
Other Background Info:
I am undecided on my major, but as of now my top choices are engineering, statistics/data analytics, and computer science/programming. I want to go to a D3 college to run.
I am open to recommendations if there is a college you think would fit me. If not I was hoping you would give me the best mix of price and education out these, or other, colleges.
What can your parents pay? Have you used the net price calculator for these schools?
As a NYS resident, SUNY Geneseo will cost about $20,000 a year ( give or take a little in either direction). We don’t know your parents financial situation so we can’t tell you if you qualify for FA.
How about Union College?
It’s small, it’s in NY, it’s not outrageously selective, it offers good need-based aid, and it has decent engineering programs.
I ran the NPC for Union College, assuming a family income of $150K, 4 kids (w/one other in college), $75K in cash/checking, and $75K in home equity. The estimated net price is $15,490/year. YMMV … but this estimate suggests to me that for the OP, a selective “full need” college may offer a lower net price than one of the SUNY schools.
That’s why lots of these were listed earlier but it looks like op hasn’t investigated them yet.
Op needs to start working on this seriously and run the NPC college after college, from her list and from this thread.
The income cap for the NYS Excelsior scholarship for 2018 - 2019 is $110K and it is the federal AGI number that is used. For the following year, it will go up to $125K. It covers only tuition, not room and board. For the OP, I am assuming that the $150K may be gross and the AGI might be lower. Unfortunately, it is all or nothing. I made a tad over $100K in 2015 and not only is S17 NOT getting the scholarship, I was assessed an extra $100 per semester to cover those who did qualify. However, for my son, SUNY is the best choice.
The OP might also want to consider SUNY Albany, which has a good comp sci program. With your stats, you may get into the honors program, which has a scholarship and a dedicated dorm.
