Right now I'm considering FAU, UCF, amd USF for Biology on a Pre-med track. Does anyone have any experience with these programs or know which are better?

I've tried to contact them all, but only UCF responded, and did not sound that great. I understand they all have attached medical schools though, which is a huge plus for me.

Which do you guys recommend?

You’re from Indiana. Do you want to pay OOS fees for a bio major as a premed student? Are your parents fine with paying the high OOS costs for a Florida state school? Unless you’re going to get large merit money, that seems like a waste of money.

Most good schools are going to have good science classes for premed majors. The point is to go to a good school.

What’s wrong with Indiana schools?

You should go to a good school where you’ll be a top student. Premeds shouldn’t go to schools where their stats are average for the school. You’re less likely to emerge with a GPA that med schools expect.

Also…why go to a FL public? It won’t help you get into a FL med school. You’re OOS.

University of Miami is the best for biology. After that, University of Florida. Rest of them are just average and not worth the out of state tuition. Just go to Indiana University-Bloomington or even Purdue.

I think the OP could probably get merit aid. Like many southern publics, some of the FL publics are pretty generous.

The OP has a 29 ACT and 3.85 GPA. That would qualify him for an $8000 green & gold directors scholarship and $2000 honors scholarship at USF, for example, knocking the cost of tuition/fees + housing/board down to ~$15K. Not bad for an OOS school. (Cheaper than in-state IU, in fact.) I don’t know how good it is for pre-med, but it has a fine reputation for marine biology, and Tampa is pretty awesome city.

Indiana U is a great option and probably the best bang for the buck for any middle or upper class Indiana resident, but I don’t see any harm in also looking elsewhere if the options are affordable.

My parents actually prefer I go to a Florida school, because they plan on moving there as well when I’m done with high school! And from what I can tell, most of the mid level FL publics are about the same cost as IU and Purdue in-state.

UF or if you can afford it, UM. No other schools come close.

How much are we talking for UM?

Your stats ? Your efc ? You might receive some aid.

Sticker price is around 55k per year. (room, board, transportation fees, tuition, books, miscellaneous expenses included)

Goodness, $55K? Yeah never mind! I have a 3.85 GPA, 29 ACT, really good EC’s. Lots of leadership and volunteering.
