Best housing for transfers?

I just got accepted as a transfer for fall 2014 to Davis Woohoo. I am going up this weekend to see the campus and I was wondering where is the best off campus housing for transfers. I don’t really want to live on campus with other people and I rather get a studio or 1-bedroom apartment. Can someone please tell me what area and which apartments are the best for transfers? Thanks!!

Two out of the four student housing-sponsored apartments for transfer students are off-campus, and none of the four apartments are owned by UC Davis. They just have agreements with UC Davis to provide housing to transfers. This year, it seems like many of the apartments that used to offer transfer housing to students don’t do it anymore, and therefore only 2 of the student housing apartments (Arlington Farms in West Davis and the Lexington in South Davis) are actually off-campus. The other two, the Colleges at La Rue and Primero Grove, are on campus. Compared to this year, there were more choices[/url”>http://www.housing.ucdavis.edu/prospective/transfers/2013/sha.asp]choices to choose from in previous years. But if you want to get a studio or 1 bedroom apartment, you would be renting through the apartments themselves, not through UC Davis, because if you were to go through UC Davis, they wouldn’t put you in a studio or 1 bedroom apartment at all.

What exactly is your price range for apartments? Do be aware that here in Davis, a lot of studio and 1 bedroom apartments typically range from $900 - $1200. This[/url”>Arlington Farm - Davis Apartments - Tandem Properties]This lists the price range for 3 different floorplans for a 1 bedroom apartment at Arlington Farms. At the Drake (located in North Davis), a 1 bedroom apartment is $1115/month and a studio is $975/month, but the studio is already sold out (many apartments start leasing early in January or February). The Willows, another apartment unit that used to provide transfer housing, also has 1 bedroom apartments, but they are all sold out. On top of that, you would also be required to pay a security deposit, which can be pretty high depending on the apartment. For example, the security deposit for a 1 bedroom unit at the apartment complex I currently live at is $500, whereas it was $300 at the apartment complex I lived at last year.

@sopranokitty‌ thanks for the response and your insight. I actually went to davis last weekend and ended up leasing a place at West Village I think it was called the Ramble. I’ll be in a three bedroom which at first I was apprehensive until I saw the facility as well as how the apartments have individual bathrooms for each room.

@sopranokitty‌ Hey! This post kinda died but I just wanted to let you know that UCD is actually giving out studio and one bedroom apartments. I got one at the Colleges!

@soweird: Huh, in previous years, Student Housing didn’t have any agreements with the Colleges at all. I think it’s a new thing.
