Best kind of TV?

My family is buying a TV in the next day or so so I'm trying to figure out which kind/type etc is best.

Today we were looking at some 1080p LCD HDTV 40' for 1800 bucks.

We won't really go over 2500 so what kind/type/brand etc is good right now?

The LCDs of Sony and Samsung are considered the best.

You may want to look at this:
<a href="http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=11040884%5B/url%5D">http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=11040884</a></p>

It's a 40" Sony LCD 1080p TV at $1800. If you search online, you may even find it at around $1500.

I have a Vizio LCD TV (smaller one though). I think the quality is good, and I read some great reviews about them. They are comparable to the big names like Sony and Samsung, and much lower priced. Costco carries them with a great return policy as well.

I'd suggest Samsung LCD. I have 2 19" widescreen Samsung monitors (940bw's) and they're fantastic. The CRT TV my family has is probably 10 years old, a massive Sony (weighs more than I do), and it has been great. Try to go for 1080p if you can, the picture will be better.

My family generally swears by Sony, and I have to agree, we have had a very good experience with their Bravia LCD TVs. The picture and sound quality is excellent, especially on their XBR line.

Actually, Vizio and other such brands, while they make some good products don't really compare to Samsung and Sony.

For more "bang for the buck" - Samsung is usually the better choice.
