Good TV's for a College Dorm?

Im goin to college next month and am gonna need a TV. Been lookin at Best Buy and Walmart. Lookin to spend at most 3-400. But Im not sure which is better: a regular TV, a flat panel or a TV with DVD and VCR combo. Any help is appreciated.

Flat panels are way better.

Well, you're willing to spend quite a bit, so I'd say go for the flat panel. I, personally, got the cheapest stereo TV I could find...so many things to buy, so little money. Hah! You can avoid having to get one with a built in DVD player by making sure your TV has an S-video jack...that way, you can just hook it up to your laptop (if it has a DVD drive, which most do now).

skip the money on the flat panel and spend it on one with a dvd player.

I got a 26" Toshiba HDTV (for the XBOX 360) widescreen flatscreen for 399, it's amazing. You could get a HDTV for less than 400 if you look hard enough.

Sony Wegas are good. A 24" can be had for under $300.

Don't get one with a built in DVD... I have gone through three DVD players in two years... I'm on my fourth now. Granted I use mine ALOT but they always break. Its easy to replace if it breaks if it's separate but difficult if it's an all in one.

I think this depends on how big your dorm room is...a 20"+ TV can really take up a ton of space in a regular room. If you have a suite type situation and can put it in the living room, I'd go for the bigger one, but otherwise, a smaller flat panel (like 15" or 16") will suit much better. If you play a lot of video games, you're going to have to adjust to the small screen, but I never have time for that stuff, so watching family guy on 15" across is just fine.

37 inch LCD HDTV. now i have to figure out how to fit the damn thing into the dorm.

32" lcd hdtv. its going on the wall or on my desk (i always work with the lappy on my lap).

I don't think any school out there will let you mount it on the wall.

I'm sure you can buy a stand and place it on a desk.

I brought the TV last year and mine was a measly 15" screen. It was fine for me and my roommate; we had a full load of classes, so we barely watched TV.

Sidenote: I noticed that TiVo is becoming a staple at my university.

Who needs Tivo? Buy yourself a VCR. They're pretty cheap ($80 or less at most places, I've seen them as low as $50) and not only do you get a good economical way to record things but you also can play any VHS tapes you might have sitting around.

Who needs TiVo?! I dont know how I lived without it.

or you could just use your computer as a DVR

Damn man took the words out of my mouth!!!

Buy this: <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0007QOKAI/sr=1-19/qid=1137388685/ref=sr_1_19/104-3484002-5216726?redirect=true&%5Fencoding=UTF8%5B/url%5D">http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0007QOKAI/sr=1-19/qid=1137388685/ref=sr_1_19/104-3484002-5216726?redirect=true&%5Fencoding=UTF8</a></p>

And there you have it, DVR on the comp.

i dont know how i lived so long without dvr. i have only had it for about 4 months and i am going to college next month. boo.

Toshiba's are good cuz they last forever.
Oh and Tracemhunter, if you are a male, you shouldnt work with the laptop on your lap

Why shouldnt u?
