I've worked my ass off in high school to get the grades and test scores to give myself the opportunity to hopefully get accepted into some decent liberal arts schools. basically, im looking to get loose in college and have a good time. what do you guys think are some good liberal arts schools that have an intellectual academic vibe and a good party scene?

UF! Where I’m at now. Extremely competitive, one of the best public colleges in the nation, and they have everything–you could either do liberal arts or something like engineering because they have it all. Super hard to get in, but once you’re there the party scene rocks. Rated as #2 party school in the nation by the Princeton Review.

State schools like UF are probably your best bet because they are so huge that they have everything–academic competitition AND parties.

This would be more helpful if we knew what state you were in.

I’d stay away from the teeny tiny liberal art private schools, from the ones I visited in HS nobody seemed into partying or football or anything.

UF is a great school, for reasons dramakitty said. I have nothing bad to say about it…BUT it’s not known for a fantastic liberal arts program. If you’re looking for a school strictly based on its liberal arts program that also has great partying, I hear they get pretty wild at Davidson.

Colorado College; a work hard, party hard top-25 LAC school. It’s very much a ‘hippy school’ with an outdoorsy intellectual vibe to it. As a result of the proximity to Aspen and Pikes Peak, most of the party scene revolves around students skiing, hiking, camping, and snowboarding on the weekends and/or during block breaks, although there are parties [and various other activities] to be found every single night of the week. The downside (or upside, depending on the type of student you are) is that the school is on a Block Plan.

Rollins College- small private LAC right outside Orlando. Good Greek life scene and better party scene. We were ranked #17 by Playboy in the top party schools list.

Also, you could get very good scholarships there from how your grades sound, and there’s definitely a sizable “burnt out” population, kids who still work hard in school and are intellectual, but let loose at night, because there’s always something going on.

Union College in upstate NY. In 2009 we were ranked #13 party school in the nation by Princeton Review. The college fought to get us off the list, because they didn’t want that reputation. Otherwise we would still be on the list. Every weekend is crazy. You can always find something to do. Even if there’s no big parties going on that weekend (which is rare) people still make their own fun by drinking with friends in dorms or at houses. You can find someone in every frat drinking every single night of the week. When friends from other schools come to visit, so many of them are shocked by how crazy it is. So many times I’ve heard them say that there college isn’t like this and they wish they could go here. If you come to Union, you’ll have a ton of fun.

There are plenty. Any specifications on size, location, etc.?

For starters - Wake Forest, Bucknell, Holy Cross, Dartmouth, and Tulane have all been suggested, and from what I’ve experienced this seems pretty true. Most larger universities will have a good party scene (ex. Notre Dame, BC, Northwestern), but there are definitely parties at smaller LACs too (Carleton, for example, has plenty, though they’re smaller in the winter because no one wants to go outside as much). It pretty much depends on what you’re looking for.

That being said, just from my experience and from reputation, I’d also suggest Colgate, Brown, Rice, the Claremont schools, WEsleyan, and Davidson.

Depauw. it was #10 on princeton review’s list of party schools, and over 70% of the students go greek. its a small town, so there isnt much to do off campus, and with all the fraternities theres almost always parties.
