Partying and Academics

Sure, Princeton Review can rank the top party schools, and sure, USNWR can rank the top schools for academics. But if one were to combine these two lists, what would the rankings look like?

"The Best Academical Party School"

Schools coming to my mind are Dartmouth, UPenn, Vanderbilt, UVA, Wash&Lee, etc.

What do you think?

Most party schools have admission rates upwards of 80%, and most selective colleges have a lamer social scene than a star trek convention.

Which schools exemplify the "WORK HARD! PARTY HARDER!" mentality?

hm, I think Penn would be like that. Maybe honors colleges at state schools?

Tulane.

10ch.

yep i agee, like the UC's

Duke. And for some reason, I thought of Colgate.

I'd put Dartmouth, Duke, Penn, and W&L at the top of the combined list. Cornell probably deserves a mention, too.

Dartmouth, UPenn and Duke have good parties for top 10 schools for but their parties don't compare to real party schools.

Your best bets for the ultimate work hard, party hard expierence are UVA, Vanderbilt, and Washington and Lee. These three schools all have wild parties, very cute girls, and will pretty much gaurentee a fun college expierence.

For less conservative party hard/work hard schools, look into The George Washington University, NYU, and Boston University. Boston College is also another conservative party school.

Pricneton Review & Playboy each has its own lists. Google them to find out. Some surprises there too.

I would say that Dartmouth, Duke, Penn, Princeton DO compare to real party schools. I have hung out at OSU, Miami Ohio, UCLA, etc and the top schools have a better scene IMO because they are more welcoming. There are plenty of parties at OSU but what fun is it if you have to be on a list or be in that group of people. The top schools are much more inclusive and friendly to everyone, making the parties more fun.

I've heard it said about Davidson.

Wisconsin, UVa , Michigan

slipper1234,

i'm sorry to hear that your experience at UCLA was unwelcoming. but for the most part, the parties are UCLA have a "come one, come all" attitude, so perhaps give it another try.

speaking of which, i read this in a college magazine: one time, mark zuckerberg (sp?), the creator of facebook, was down in los angeles and randomly sent facebook messages to UCLA students for a party. he had a good time ;)

Duke, Dartmouth, Princeton, Notre Dame(football games). Among LAC's, Colgate, Holy Cross, W&L, and Bucknell.

Generally, rural schools tend to be a bit crazier - there's just less to do. Also look for the heavy frat numbers.

Kfc,

I agree with you mostly, the frats are much more exclusive though. but UCLA and UNC are far more welcoming than most big state schools.

Many, possibly most, top unis & LACs fall into the "work hard, play hard" category. To the best of my knowledge, this is b/c the students @ these schools are intelligent & hard-working (or they wouldn't be there), but like all other college students, want to party.

So what would a list look like?

I'm surprised no one has mentioned USC. The academics are still quite good...
