hahah the dress code at exeter scares me. chino pants, collared shirts, ties, cordovan loafers. thats what my dad wears, daily, and he's old, like 60. no wonder they'll call it classic prep, definitely classic

I don't know if people actually stick to that dress code though. At least during my visit, I was seeing some funky combinations of stripy collared shirts, mismatched ties, and sometimes jeans. All of this invariably with sneakers. I'm not exactly a fashionista but I started to believe that everyone at Exeter had no dress sense at all. Kind of like the kids don't know how to dress themselves in the morning so they just scoop up what's lying on the floor at the foot of their bed.

I'm sure some teachers are strict about the dress code, but I saw NO ONE wearing the dress code described.

5 minutes to choose outfit or 5 minutes of extra sleep?
Extra sleep wins.

Ill take the choosing of the clothes, Im not a materialistic person but I like to look presentable.

true tuesdayair.

agreed tomthecat, exeter students are blind. when i saw wat people were wearing on the viewbook, i cringed and said ewwww. who the hell wears chino pants with old ratty sneakers? plus the pants were pulled up way too high, steve urkel, that's what he looked liked.

hmm i would take the no sleep and wake up 30 minutes to 1 hour earlier so i can do makeup and approve my outfit

To be honest once you get to BS your concern about fashion/makeup and all that stuff dies down a little bit because people see you everyday and every moment so they know what you look like without all the added stuff

I am a bit nervous about living with someone who doesn't understand my quirks. Like... I wear tank tops every day under my t-shirts, etc. But I hate the tightness they get from being washed an dried, blah blah. So I stretch them out by pushing them down to my hips. Weird? Yes. Habit unlikely to change? Yes.

tank tops under shirts are normal. everyone wears those. i wear one.

hmm still gonna try though, im the girl who slept at 2am trying to finish a project and woke up at 5 to pick out an outfit, straighten hair, and do my make up

Wow (10 char)

i actually tend to do better at school when im sleepy. i talk less with my friends, therefore, get less in trouble. my test scores raise up also

Whatever works, but that's just downright unhealthy

no, i hardly notice doing it these days. ive been doing it since 5th grade. hmm, tomthecat, you think it's weird cause ur not a girl

As far as I know, girls need sleep as well. Correct me if I'm wrong...

true (10 character)

Not all girls are like that, Senay. I think you will find, especially on the east coast, that most girls don't even wear make up. Even when they do, it is generally VERY understated. I was raised in the south where girls did the whole 2 hour "getting dressed" hair and make up rituals so I know what you're talking about. Beware that in many areas, that sort of behavior is considered superficial and self-absorbed. I'm not criticizing you because I know where you're coming from. I just wanted to let you know that that sort of "at what cost, beauty?" attitude isn't the norm in the northeast...at least where I live anyway. Look at the girls in your viewbooks and I think you'll see what I mean. Very little make-up.

Woohoo neatoburrito!

neatoburrito. yeaa i noticed that. i find it very weird that im being attacked on the makeup issue since it's normal at my school to do the 1-2 hour thing in the morning instead of sleep. i live in washington, and it's very normal to care about what you look like. i wonder what people would say if they met a girl that liked to tan often and get weekly pedi's and mani's.

Oh, I'm not attacking you! My mother-in-law still thinks that women who don't wear make-up don't care about what they look like. What she doesn't seem to realize is that some women are happy with the way they look and whether they look chic or frumpy has no bearing whatsoever on how they feel about themselves.

Personally, I like to only to the make-up hair bit every so often. I'd rather be told, "Wow! You look great!" than "Gee, are you feeling OK?" :)

I simply wanted to let you know that there are a lot of different views on these kinds of things....not passing judgement so much as just trying to help you see that what may be normal for you isn't necessarily normal for everyone, not that your way is BAD. I need reminding of that sort of thing all the time, so don't feel bad!

oh i wasnt saying that you were attacking me, i was saying that i find it weird that other people are attacking me because i find it completely normal to spend large amounts of hours on your looks
