Best Low Quarters?

I saw recently in the Class of 2013 discussion that we should purchase low quarters prior to R-Day. I was wondering if anyone had any reviews of low quarters that worked well for them with comfort in-mind.

I saw someone post these: Bates Footwear - Bates Lites Black Leather Oxford

BTW, I heard you couldn't have polyurethane shoes because they needed to be straight black leather for shining purposes, or am I wrong?

Thanks

West Point should issue an authorization letter. Follow the instructions in the letter and get what is authorized.
Corfam's are not allowed - they must be leather.

The only unshiny ones we could find in our area last year were found at the local air force base. Also, they would not let me (parent) go to the store on base, only the cadet with papers so I had to hang at the visitor’s center. I called ahead before we headed down to the various posts and bases to make sure they had the types she needed and ballpark sizes.

Hi there. I’m new to this site. I just did a google search for “black military low quarter shoes” and this site came up. My son is headed to West Point and needs these shoes. We had a current WP cadet at our house last night for supper and we asked him a million questions. One of the things we discussed was these shoes. He said that new cadets CANNOT have the shiny corafram shoes. He said they must be the black leather low quarters that can be polished with black leather shoe polish. In fact, he said he made the mistake of showing up in the shiny corafram shoes on R-Day and said that was a big mistake. We have a military surplus store near where we live, and I called there today, and they said they have them in stock. Also, the cadet said that my son needs to have a good pair of running shoes that are broken in before arriving. Good luck!

For those who haven’t purchased running shoes yet: go to a good specialty running store. You will pay more, but the expertise of a professional fit is so worth the money. We went to a store called Fleet Feet. All the sell are running shoes. They evaluated how he walks and runs and then recommended a few styles. He was able to try them on then go out back and run. The manager went with him to evaluate the fit and how he moved in the shoe. He had already fit several cadet candidates that month and knew exactly the need for a high quality shoe. These shoes lasted until spring, where my cadet was then able to find something very similar at the cadet store (for an amazing price!). Do not skimp on your running shoes! This is not a place to try to save money!
