I'm kinda at odds about how to break them in...anyone got any good ideas?
I cant exactly wear them out when I hang out with my friends...

You can't......or won't. ;-)

Cannot stress enough the importance of preparing your feet for the low quarters. I see so much talk about the boots....1st detail is predominately standing around in the low quarters, not the boots. You will have break-in time for the boots but are in the low quarters immediately on R Day. Every foot, shin, and knee problem I have heard of has been attributed to the low quarters...and many of these problems have surfaced with a vengeance before 2nd detail (the half way point).

hehe i've been wearing them around the house, and will probably just suck it up and wear them to school once a week. (my friend and i wear the boots to school with jeans once a week at least, and that has helped so much...plus you can't really tell they're combat boots) however, it might be a little harder to avoid awkward questions with some shiny dressy shoes on. also, i wear them around the house for a couple hours at a time. any wearing helps!

sorry for me being lazy, but I dont want to go recheck... are we supposed to get the regular low quarters or the corophram shiny ones.

Regular..........

should we show up with them shined, you think?

mrgreenapple: wow, does this mean you have accepted your appointment? :)

Im a cadet at nmmi and i have a pair of bates that are spits (not coraframs). are these okay for "low quarters"?

yes... actually I accepted a 2nd appointment, first one went to someone else. west point feels like a double edged sword.good or bad, ill be there june 26th.

mrgreenapple: I know it has been difficult but I think you have made a good decision. Congratulations!

Low quarters need to be the leather ones not the shiny ones.

uh oh....my low quarters are definitely shiny. when i went to the aafes, i showed the shoe lady my boot letter with the stipulations on it, and she handed me the issued low quarters- supposedly the only ones i could get. are these wrong?

Most AAFES stores do not stock the leather low quarters. Son ordered his by phone. The boot letter has the catalogue number on it. Current cadets have posted that plebes will be hazed if they show up in the shiny shoes. Maybe one of them will chime in.

I'm active duty Army so I planned to wear the low quarters I got issued in basic training. They are the "shiny" kind as opposed to the leather ones, however. The boot letter pdf says this:

"b. Due to the Army transition to a new low quarter shoe, there maybe different brands stocked at the military stores. Notwithstanding, the basic footwear carried in AAFES will meet Army and West Point requirements. Any unique footwear sizes (i.e., 3 wide or 14 extra-wide) should be purchased as soon as possible to ensure receipt of these unique sizes prior to Reception Day."

I assume this means my low quarters will be fine (they were army-issue, after all) but maybe someone who's already been through Beast could enlighten us?

This was the thread I was thinking of:

"DO NOT buy the Corframs. If you do, you will get hazed. Plebes are authorized only all-leather low-quarters."
Posted by marines4me a current plebe.

Is it possible the Corframs are acceptable this year? Somebody should know the "real" answer.

im almost certain you cant wear them till your second year.

These are the instructions for the lowquarters:
Mens Shoes: Oxford, Black Leather, Mildew resistant (DSCP; key item#M206H)

fatduck: Although the letter says that different brands (I think Bates are standard) may be available they do not say that anything other than leather is acceptable. To be sure, I have just called the AAFES contact number on the boot letter, and Cedric Holloway confirmed that plebes are only authorized to wear leather lowquarters.
I guess you can show up with what you have. If they are incorrect you will be issued the correct ones. Not sure if hazing will be an issue.

.....

so bates are okay....thanks

bates make corframs and the regular all leathers, just so you know

Do we have to shine the low quarters?
