Best Major for Premed?

So I’m going to UTD and plan to become a Pediatrician. I definitely want to major is one of the sciences. Which major do y’all recommend (chemistry, biology, biochemistry, ect) based on professors, amount of kids in each major (typically biology has the most, but I’m not sure if that’s good or bad), and required courses

Unless you’re super interested, you might find it in your best interest to avoid biochemistry. Sure, it covers most of the premed requirements, but you also have to take harder upper-level chem classes such as Quantitative Analysis, Instrumental Analysis, P. Chem, Calc 3, and Linear Algebra. Biochemistry also requires more hours than either Biology or Chemistry.

Again, if you’re interested, go for it. But if you’re looking to maintain a high GPA, then steer clear.

^ agreed. Just choose something you will enjoy. None of the majors will be particularly helpful in med school and beyond. I personally did neuroscience, and it was pretty easy major. Pretty useless major though if you decide not to go to med/grad school.

If I choose a major that isn’t in the Natural Sciences department, would it be difficult to cover the medical school prerequisites? Would there be enough room/time? Thanks for any input.

I thought BME would be a good major but then I heard it is quite difficult to maintain a high enough GPA for you to be considered if you ever choose to switch to premed.
