My son likes biology and chemistry both. He wants to be a doc, so will go pre-med for his undergrad. How will he decide between bio or chem?? And why?
Thanks.
Chemistry isn’t great if he falls out of the premed track (as happens to about 75% would be pre-meds) however biology is even worse as it has even lower odds in the marketplace since there are so many pre-med who could not get into any med school.
My advice would be Biostatistics or bioinformatics, with a chemistry minor. Neuroscience+ data science could also work.
Some schools offer a biochemistry major which studies the chemical principles of life. Honestly, its important that he does what he likes to do.
In terms of employment, @MYOS1634 is spot on. Bio and chem degrees are not good job-wise unless you want to work in a lab making 35k when you graduate.
Great advice. Thank you.
