I want to go to law school after university, although i’m still in high school at the moment. I’ve heard taking Pre-Law is not impressive for law school admissions. I was thinking of taking a language, such as continuing spanish or taking russian (my native language) as a minor. For a major, I would be willing to double major. I was thinking of taking music industry and focusing in law school on music law, but if i were to not focus on music law what majors would be most impressive to law schools? I have a over a 4.0 GPA and I don’t find my AP classes difficult, so I’d be completely willing to take rigorous classes and a difficult major.
Well, first of all, I think you should major in something you are interested in rather than worrying about what impresses law schools. Let your interests guide your choice. Law schools are mostly concerned with your grades and your LSAT scores.
But given that, law school emphasizes skills in writing/communication, analytical/critical thinking and logic. So a major that emphasizes those things is probably a good idea. Taking a language can help you do that; other majors like political science, philosophy, sociology, mathematics, physics, English, and history are also good choices in that vein. Music industry…not so much. That doesn’t mean that you CAN’T go to law school with a music industry major, but you’ll just need to do coursework that’s heavy on writing and critical thinking to make sure that you adopt those skills.
