So I know that essentially any major is acceptable to get an mba, but which one will give me the best prep and make me look "good" to admissions?

I am most likely going to do econ, but my true passion lies in communication/communication studies/media studies.

And If I were to pursue a comm degree from USC,UCLA,NYU, would it be difficult to get work experience in marketing?

Like you said before, “any major is acceptable to get an mba,” but if you are interested and have passion for marketing, why not study that in undergrad.

My undergraduate major was marketing. I was originally torn between communications and marketing but I sat down with my academic adviser and he advised me to major in marketing. Here’s why- At my school, (this may not hold true for others), communications majors were apart of the School of Mass Communications. The highest math class you have to take is algebra. No finance, econ, statistics, accounting courses are required. Whereas, in marketing, you are apart of the School of Business, where calculus, finance, econ, statistics, accounting courses are required. If you really want to prepare yourself for business, and getting an MBA I would do yourself a favor and stick with Marketing. There are plenty of interesting courses to take, like Consumer Behavior, Marketing Research, Information for Business Decisions, Internet Marketing, etc.

It depends on what you want to do though. And, I’m not trying to discredit those who are in communications. But, if you take several math, finance-related courses it will greatly prepare you for graduate b-school. Just my two cents!
