Best method for improving writing scores?

What are some recommendations in improving writing scores. My score is a 670 now and I am not happy about it. Any recommendations on studying/prepping for that section for an October retake? I didn't really prep for the June ones (due to APs etc) and have ample time to devout to SAT prep over the summer. Any help is appreciated!

barrons writing workbook helped me.. then just practice

barrons...blue book....PR tests thingy book...just get many sources of practice

does the blue book have a lot of grammar and punctuation rules? For example- when/when not to use 'who' and 'whom'? When to use colons and semi colons, etc? Or does it just have practice tests?

Blue book isn't a good review book; it's a good practice book

writing... just get Barrons and Kaplans writing worskhop books... and just memorize some quotes for the essay

Thanks a lot for the recs guys. I am going to get the Kaplan one and do practices from the Blue and Collegeboard online tests. Heres to hoping for a 800 :).

I know it sounds stupid and repetitious, but practice will get you in the 750+ range. You'll see mistakes that you'd normally make, and never make them again:D.

Heres to hoping so glucose!

here's to hope.

i went from a 640 (7 essay) to 780 (12 essay for June) so have hope and practice

yeah if you practice you should do well... when i retook the sat my 2nd time i didnt practice the writing but this time i did and it paid off!

1st time 600/8
2nd time 590/8
3rd time 720 essay: 11

Looks like it can be done. Some prep should do me good for all sections actually. I think a prepped a max of 3 hours for the SAT so I have a lot of room to improve.

and for the essay just to let you know:
-i did not fill the whole 2 pages (but I only had about 2 lines left)
-i did not use 3 examples (only 2)
-i did not use a personal example
-i did not make anything up
-i only had 4 paragrahps not 5

-i did use quotes
& sort of an out-of-the-box book

I actually got a 12 on the essay on my first try (10 on the second try where i got the 670). So I am not too worried about that.

As for the Kaplan book is this it: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0743260333/qid=1151362416/sr=1-2/ref=sr_1_2/102-7250723-3653713?s=books&v=glance&n=283155

yep thats it. I also recommend the barrons book. More practice. 1 book is quite short...

Cool. I am planning on using the blue book for more practice though. But I will get the Barrons as well.

1235813.......what kinds of examples did you use?

Question: What do you guys think of a study plan in which I do one section of the SAT per day for 48 days (when my stash runs out) and go through the entire thing? Do you think thats a good idea or should I just focus on specific subjects? I have three months so I would like to spread the studying out.

spread it out because thats how the real SAT test does it when you take it.
