Hi, so I just took the PSAT yesterday and I thought I needed some prep before the actual one. I’d be thankful if you could give me some suggestions on which SAT book to get. I’m thinking about Kaplan or PR, but other suggestions are good too :).
Fyi, I think I might have gotten a perfect on the math section; I thought it was really easy and I think I did pretty good on the Writing section, but I had to guess a lot on the critical reading. So one with good CR prep will be helpful. thanks!
(Im just gonna assume a good prep book for the old one is probably good for the new one as well)
One more thing. I’d like to answer your question, but I don’t think there are any good prep books yet for the new SAT; certainly not anything from Kaplan or PR.
What would you seggest if not kaplan or pr?
The real one is probably the best, even if it isn’t very good. Barrons and others are coming out with books for this late in the year.
I just got Erica Meltzer’s Grammar and Critical Reader for the New SAT. I had the ones she wrote for the older SAT for D18 and liked them so much I purchased the updated versions for S16

I agree with @3scoutsmom. I’ll probably have my sister use the new Critical Reader to guide her studying.
@3scoutsmom I am curious how the CR in her new SAT book differs from her old SAT book. I have the old book and love it. It has helped me with my reading (self education of the middle aged mind).
@VANURSEPRAC the new books just arrived the before yesterday and haven’t had a chance to go through it thoroughly yet but she’s set it up to align with the New College Board’s Blue Book and chosen passages that are more like ones that will be on the New SAT. She also updated the the format giving only four choices instead of five and includes a list of all the reading question from the new practice exams by category and by test.
I didn’t know that Ms. Meltzer’s book for the new SAT is out. I would recommend giving it a try.
@sattut could you tell me what you meant by “the real one”?
@3scoutsmom do you think the book was well aligned with the redesigned SAT? or PSAT if you have taken it
@rokrea I’m a parent I haven’t taken the PSAT or SAT in many years. I’m sure the real one is the one you pay for and not the free practice test you can down load. Yes I think her books were well aligned with the new SAT practice tests. Since the new SAT won’t be available until March no one can say with certainly, but her book are aligned with the officially available practice tests.
@3scoutsmom oh okay. thank you!!
