Best place to eat on campus?

Officially tired of the Wright Food Court. Went to Gresham once and it was basically the same but smaller. I heard Read has a cafeteria with unusual hours, but haven't tried it.

Outside of the food courts, what are better places to eat here that aren't so expensive? (most places i've seen on campus are majorly expensive)

Everywhere you go food is expensive in Bloomington unless you get an apartment and cook for yourself. The only cheap food is taco bells.

The single handed BEST place to eat at IU is at the Chick-fil-A in the basement of the library. The chicken nuggets there are amazing as well as the best tasting option on campus. But, it’ll cost almost 6 bucks. As does everything at the library and the union if you don’t use your Access card. Read has several places, one real small and the other is a legitimate food court where you simply swipe your Access card to get in and then it’s essentially an all you can eat buffet. Then there’s a place on the South side of Read that has waffles and sandwiches. Be glad you’re not eating at Gresh everyday though.

I’m getting so sick of the food in Gresham, so I’ve been venturing other places to eat. I WISH I lived closer to Wright, I’d seriously be eating there every day.

Collins has a buffet-style dining room that’s pretty good, as does Read. These places are different in that they’re not food court style; rather, you pay once and you can eat all you want. There’s some good options but unfortunately both of these places have weird hours. I don’t think they’re open on weekends.

El Bistro at Read has delicious sandwiches. Ummmm I really really like the Burger King at the union for those days where I’m in between classes and just want something to eat… it’s pretty inexpensive compared to the rest of your options on campus.

El Bistro is good, anywhere on Kirkwood is good, inexpensive, and close to campus.

I’m in McNutt and I have not been to Gresh a lot, but I think it would get old pretty quickly. I’ve a lot of C-Store sandwiches for a quick meal from McNutt and I’d say they’re pretty good. I’m going to guess they’re very similar to the ones in Read if not identical, although I haven’t been there yet, but I want to try it, but I might on Friday.

I agree that Chick-fil-a and BK are good, but I’m trying to eat healthier and lose some weight, so I try to avoid that and stick with my c-store samwiches.

I eat at McNutt twice a week after my class there, and the quality of the food there is worse than anywhere else on campus. I was brave enough to try on of their PB&J’s and it is not something I plan to ever do again. I don’t know the prices, but there’s a restaurant under the Burger King in the union that looks like it’s a step up from everything else so it’s probably decent.

How can you be tired of Wright food court already? Charley Biggs. Nuff said.

This is your first year. Just bear with the cafeteria food. As soon as you become a Sophmore, get an apartment and cook for yourself.

I don’t know if any of you read the IDS, but they ran a story very recently about how a Baja Fresh is opening in the Union next month! There’s another slightly more healthy, inexpensive option for you.

^ Oh yes, but of course they won’t take meal points and one thing will cost like $18.

Has anyone tried the place under Burger King? I don’t remember what it’s called.

How much do they cost?

^ Taking the IBucks discount into effect, it’s about 4-5 dollars for all you can eat.

What are I-Bucks?

^ The money that gets taken off your card whenever you buy food on campus.

The place below BK is called Kiva and it’s a hot/cold gourmet sandwich and salad bar kind of place. They’ve had tabouleh and hummus for sale a la carte as well as standards like cole slaw, potato salad, etc (I think it was) the couple of times I’ve been there. A whole sandwich is about $5-6 and half is… I’m thinking around $4. It’s not the cheapest option, but the ingredients are high quality and tasty. Red peppers, pesto, feta cheese, ciabatta bread-- delish!

If you want the option to cook for yourself, the on-campus apartments at Mason Hall (next to Willkie) have kitchens and cost significantly less than a dorm room and exempts you from buying a meal plan. You might even be able to get away with having a dog. I’m wondering if I could keep a pet here unnoticed as long as my roommates didn’t report me. I’m not sure what happens in the dorms, but here there is a Floor Pres. and arbitrarily checking up on us doesn’t seem to be one of his responsibilities.

Once in awhile…try the $8 (after 1pm) buffet at Tudor Room in the Union. “Real” food, at a good price.

Also - you have a fridge and microwave, right? Once can do a LOT with that if they want to.

Being a “veg”, my child mostly shops grocery stores off campus, and often eats “ensuite”. Though…I already had to pay for food points and I’m going broke having to buy all this stuff too…but at least I know she’s eating healthy. Not greasy, salty, high cal/high fat…pizza, iceberg lettuce and ranch dressing salad and french fry type meals. So…it’s worth it to me.

^ I’ve never seen students eating at the Tudor Room before. Come to think of it, I don’t think I’ve ever seen the place open.
