What are some research publications especially for novel solutions, systems software or general research done by high schoolers to publish. Looking for publications that are prestigious.
Back up a second.
The usual answer is âyou should publish in the journals you are readingâ. If you arenât reading any, arenât you saying that you want to talk but donât want to listen? Furthermore, how do you know if what you have done is new and original if you donât read what others publish?
Most papers to âprestigiousâ journals are written by people with doctorates in their field, and most papers are rejected. Nature, for example, accepts 14% of its submissions. If you are really doing work at a level above 86% of PhDâs you shouldnât be applying to college. You should be applying for faculty positions at colleges.
There are journals I want to publish in, and I do realize that from high school it is not possible to get a paper is of the caliber to be published in top research journals. I am asking for research publications that support high school students or consider the level of research done in high school.
For your other question I have read journals and have looked into the research that relates to mine also reference the past work done in the research that I have done now.
It seems that along with starting non=profits, many high schoolers are now listing publication in research journals to make their applications more interesting. I think itâs great that you have an interest that you want to write about, but want to caution you that this may not make you stand out as much as expected these days.
Oh, it will make the applicant stand out. Just not in a good way. Many, most, and maybe even all of these journals will publish anything so long as the check clears. I looked at a few and quality varies between poor and plagiarized.
Admissions isnât stupid. When an applicant says âLook! Iâm a published scientist!â and the evidence is the journal equivalent of a vanity press, they will figure it out in under a minute.
Do you have a mentor/advisor at a local college? Theyâll probably know what the best venue for expressing your research isâwhether itâs a ârealâ journal, a high school journal, some sort of science fair, a community engagement event
I think youâd be better off presenting at a high school research conference. Or collaborate with a teacher to present at a professional/academic conference.
I agree I think I will base my search on the degree of acceptance a research journal offers and their publication process.
be prepared for a long timelineâŠ
For a real journal, absolutely. My slowest paper took years of back and forth before it finally went out. But these pay-for-play high school journals, they promise fast publication.
Once the check clears.
I am with the others here who have suggested that you find a mentor at the local university to give you feedback on how best to proceed. Can you enter your research in ISEF or something like that?
Even seasoned researchers discuss their results at conferences and in private correspondences with colleagues to get feedback. And legitimate refereed journals will take a while to go through the review process, at the end of which you may have already graduated high school (or even college)!
I have no idea how âprestigiousâ it is or, if this is even what you are looking for, but last year my son, along with fellow teammates from his Governorâs School group, submitted a paper and presented at the MIT Undergraduate Research Technology Conference. All accepted papers will be published in the IEEE Xplore Digital Library. Not sure if thatâs the type of thing youâre looking for?
I youâre doing original research, you would have much better admissions results submitting your work to Regeneron or Google or applying to RSI than publishing in a 5th rate journal. For kids to get work published in a top tier journal, the only practical route is as a junior co-author on a project with established professional research scientists.
Already submitted my work to Regeneron and went through the science fair as well, just looking at publishing my research as a final step. Will look at RSI thank you. I found the journal online called the Journal of Emerging Investigators, do you guys think it is a good journal to publish in? The publication timeline seems long as well.
