Best Professors

Does anyone know which are the best professors for 21-127: Concepts of Mathematics,
76-101: Interpretation and Argument, 21-120: Differential and Integral Calculus, and
15-110: Introduction to Programming

You should try to get to the old FCE (faculty course evaluation) pages, look up the course number, and see who all of the professors that have taught it are. Then look up their evaluations.

Out of those 4 courses, I have taken 21-127: Concepts of Mathematics, 76-101: Interpretation and Argument, and 15-110: Introduction to Programming.

21-127: I hear Prof. Mackey is the best (although when I took it, I had Mihai, who is also good).

76-101: I had David Cerniglia, one of the coolest professors I have ever had.

The programming courses were changed around from last semester, so the professor I had is probably not teaching it.

Mackey teaches in the Fall, and is also head of the math department. I disagree about Mihai — good person, but does not convey the subject matter well— TA Matt Szudzik saved me.

15-110 Take Feinberg. Absolutely fantastic teacher. You’ll understand when you hit iterators. If you can’t, take Kosbie.

How is Slater for introduction to programming?

I am taking:

Interpretation and Argument
Introduction to Programming
Introduction to Electrical and Computer Engineering
Differential and Integral Calculus
Computing @ Carnegie Mellon
Fencing (Hopefully. I think itd be a good breather from the grind of traditional work every day, not to mention it sounds fun.)

What are the teachers I should be avoiding?

i personalyl used ratemyprofessor.com when selecting professors/classes - although some of the teachers don’t seem to be on there… so a student would probably give a better answer anyway

I think Slater is the one that uses Alice for Intro to Programming?! Interp is a crap shoot, Sullivan is like Zeus. Well, I think he is Zeus. Not sure. And computing@cmu is probably the bestest class in all the world!
